1997 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port: This was a bonus wine Dan threw in for dessert (Thanks Dan!). This is still primary, and even though it sat in a jar for a couple hours, initially it still had quite a bit of heat. Fortunately, more than enough fruit to compensate, but when I drank some the next day, it was drinking even better. I would recommend a minimum 10-12 hour decant, if possible; or waiting another 10 years to open one of these.

If you have neither the time nor the inclination to do either, it is very drinkable and enjoyable now. As stated, there is plenty of fruit to combat the alcohol. The nose is awesome, with violets and sweet plum blossoms, with hints of tar and chocolate. The wine offers an excellent mouthfeel, with round tannins and enough acidity to show off the fruit, which is dominated by stewed plums, black current and a hint of blackberry. Some cedar, asian spice, tobacco and chocolate also show themselves. The finish initially showed a fair amount of heat (alcohol), but the intensity faded with time, and the next day, was not really discernible. Initially, I would have scored this 92, but after tasting the next day, I felt a 94 was more representative. Recommend holding, but drinking any time soon will not disappoint, especially with a long decant.
