Saturday, November 22, 2008 - I started to ask the wife what she wanted to wash down the rack of lamb, but before I could finish, she said "Widowmaker"! So, a happy wife is a happy life, and the Widowmaker spent about 2 hours in the decanter. On the nose, lots of plum, smoke, beef jerky, olive, leather, pickle, eucalyptus, and I could go on and on. Sweet dark fruit on the palate, cherries and raspberries. Also present; rhubarb, leather, cinnamon, black currant, smoked rare meat, stone, and very light menthol/mint, and some serious worcestershire. Great mouthfeel, a little tannin kick on the transition from mid to finish. Medium to long finish, and the medium acidity helped chase down the lamb fat covered in rosemary (from the yard...still alive) and garlic. Can't wait to see where this baby goes....if we can keep our hands off. The wife's score 98!
