  • Had this with family on Christmas eve. Let sit for an hour before drinking, first notes of berry and light pepper. Got even better as it sat.

  • I am just not a big fan of widow maker. This very smooth and pleaaamt. But not much interesting here. The nose is a bit more interesting and complex than the palate. Palate has some creamy cherry. A sharp bite. Maybe these need a lot more time for me. The Syrah by contrast are so complex and intriguing. And camaspelo and flying pig are also interesting. This is just meh. It is pleasant. Not bad at all. But not overly interesting.

  • Lots of classic Cayuse Funk, not many Cab typicities, more of a Syrah lookalike. Delicious but I prefer Barons Syrahs

  • Easy 96 under my tougher standards. Wine angels visit tonight. One of the very best bottles I’ve enjoyed in a long long time. This wine is it an absolutely perfect drinking window. Upon opening the nose was pure Walla Walla, though needs overwhelming funk, so inviting.

No tannins, perfectly integrated and oh so smooth! Long pure finish. Minerality and earthiness you would expect. Though just the right amount to go with dark fruit, licorice and plum. This is Cayuse at its best.

  • Typical Cayuse funk on the nose, which mostly blew off in a couple hours. Surprising sweet notes, and although that also dissipated a bit, it never seemed to integrate. Started to fill out and gain some depth, but just not quite in balance.

  • This could have used longer decant, very tight in the glass. It once it started to open up just becomes a different wine full of cherries and currants. Finish just lingers on and on.

  • Tannins fully resolved, but still feeling a bit of heat as the alcohol is on the high side.
loaded with black fruit, with hints of tar and coffee.
Got a unique funk to it, is it Cayuse funk? i've not had many widowmaker before.

    Tasty but it is expensive.

  • Initially unimpressed. No Cayuse funk and very one dimensional. But nose had funk. Drank over next several days and it improved remarkably. First the funk arrived along with tannins then both quietened down and delicious black fruit became prominent. Nice nose and finished. Medium becoming full bodied over the several days of drinking. We were very pleased in the end.

  • This was a good solid wine, nothing overly amazing. It had more of the softness of a rich merlot rather than a typical cab profile. Not as complex as I was hoping. The tannins were pretty subdued; there was some acidity. The wine was much better with food. In fact we were drinking it with the 2011 Horsepower Tribe Syrah, which was amazing on its own (definitely a cousin to Bionic Frog), but the Horsepower was shut down a bit by the food. Maybe the Widowmaker needs more time (it was opened 2 hours before serving, and decanted at that two hour mark and drunk over the next 2-3 hours.) Nose of slight blueberry, brambly, even a bit of rotting garbage/fruit (as Jason said, in a good way,to which I agreed). The palate also had that slight blueberry, but not lots of complexity or depth. Solid, not amazing.

  • Smooth and velvety with gobs of fruit that comes out after some air. Lots of other Cayuse flavors. Pretty nice and in a great place. Probably will be there for a while.

  • Big and elegent. Opened this @ Salty's on Alkai for Easter Brunch. It paired well with Leg of Lamb, but overpowered the ceviche, smoked mussels and assorted seafood I ate. It really complemented the Dark Chocolate dipped strawberries. Fantastic.

  • A nice dose of the Cayuse funk as well as some pretty cherries, earth, minerals, and currants. Went very well with lamb tartar and leg o lamb. Needed a little more air time but horrible server at Saffron wasn't much help!

  • I started to ask the wife what she wanted to wash down the rack of lamb, but before I could finish, she said "Widowmaker"! So, a happy wife is a happy life, and the Widowmaker spent about 2 hours in the decanter. On the nose, lots of plum, smoke, beef jerky, olive, leather, pickle, eucalyptus, and I could go on and on. Sweet dark fruit on the palate, cherries and raspberries. Also present; rhubarb, leather, cinnamon, black currant, smoked rare meat, stone, and very light menthol/mint, and some serious worcestershire. Great mouthfeel, a little tannin kick on the transition from mid to finish. Medium to long finish, and the medium acidity helped chase down the lamb fat covered in rosemary (from the yard...still alive) and garlic. Can't wait to see where this baby goes....if we can keep our hands off. The wife's score 98!
