Sunday, January 24, 2021 - No idea where this came from, so that made it likely it was one of those hamper wines put together with a lot of other stuff that the kids get at work and bring home at Christmas.
Wifey in the mood for a red, so with me doing Dry January it was as good as any to open. On opening and decanting got a faint whiff of 'corked' so after 45 yrs of marriage im not about to poison her so had a glass.....and yes there was a very faint taste of cork but I reckoned it would blow off after an hour with air.....and it did.
Next night I relented and helped her finish the bottle. Had with chili con carne and it was a delight. Had opened up nicely with hints of red berries, vanilla, liquorice and roasted coffee.
Its a food wine for me rather than a sipper. Its very much an everyday wine so is competing with so many others and therefore will be all about the price point[QPR]in your area. However, well worth testing it against your own everyday rioja and then decide on the basis of comparative prices.
