Monday, October 25, 2021 - Pommard 1er wine swap. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Tasted semi-blind.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of cool dark herbs, emerging earth, dark red cherries, dense berries, strawberry compote, bits of whole bunch spice, and a sense of meatiness. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), prickly grippy medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of toast oak, dark stemmy spices, emerging dark earth, chalky minerality, dark red cherries, dense ripe berry fruits, deep strawberries. Very long finish with persistent tannin.
Very good quality. Didn't feel as old as the 2008 Pommard Rugiens in the semi-blind, but feels a bit older than expected for 2014. Quite ready to drink already but on the cusp of some greater development also. Interestingly tasted more masculine than the preceding Rugiens.
