Saturday, February 7, 2009 - (Ex- Mahler-Besse 2007, original cork, VTS level). Good color for age, very firm cork which came out intact. I tried to get something thrilling out of this bottle since by reputation (and past experience) the '70 Palmer can be magnificent in both fragrance and palate, but it was not to be. The high acidity characteristic of the vintage was there which kept it fresh over the 2 hours we sampled it. The tannins were slightly coarse though and the fruit was muted and unfocused. Could it have been very slightly corked despite appearance and pedigree?
