90 Points

Thursday, January 6, 2011 - Pop 'n pour - tasted over 2 hours. Completely agree with others about the nose on this wine. Wonderful savory aromas of meat, herbs, and a floral component, too. The nose promised more than the palate could give, but still not bad. Roasted meat, blueberry, cherry, and leather were there with a (thankfully) restrained oak treatment. More on the elegant side, with good balancing acidity and soft tannins. On the minus side, it was a bit unfocused and the flavors faded rather quickly, but I'd bet a year or two laying down would help this improve as the structure for aging is there. Oh, and there was a little spritz (as others have noticed), that dissipated after 20 or 30 minutes. I've got 2 more bottles of this, so I'm glad this came through after the disappointments with the RRV Zin and Dolinsek Ranch Heirloom.
