Thursday, March 8, 2007 - This was the 3rd of 3 bottles delivered to me frozen solid with corks protruding 2 months ago. I slowly defrosted them in the cellar and drank the first two right away. For this bottle, I drove the cork back in with a rubber mallet and cellared it until tonight.
Surprisingly, there's little evidence of damage from the cold, other than heavy tartaric acid crystal at the bottom. Nice golden yellow color, completely lucent. Powerful nose with white fruit, citrus notes and a hint of pine. No oxidative notes whatsoever on nose or palate. The palate is crisp and clean, with fruit, minerals and acidity in perfect balance.
Perhaps wine isn't as delicate as I often assume. This one went from solid ice to my glass; it didn't just survive, it remained a stellar drinking experience.
