Sunday, June 14, 2020 - 2010 Château Malescot St. Exupéry was developing, structured and earthy. The third growth in Margaux was clear and deep ruby in colour with fine sediments. With half an hour of brief decanting, aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum and prune emerged, followed by graphite, liqourice and earth. On the palate, it was dry and full-bodied, balanced with medium level of acidity and rather high level of structured gripping tannin. Flavours of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke and mushroom persisted in a long earthy finish.

It was more aggressive than my expectation from Margaux appellation, probably because of the ripeness and concentration offered in the warm and dry 2010 vintage. The blend composed of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot, raised in 60% new oak barrels for 16 to 18 months.
