Drank a few weeks ago at a private dinner and this delivered exactly what we were looking for with its typical Margaux profile of dark red / black fruit, smooth tannins and flavors of earth, tobacco with hints of dark chocolate and a finish that lingers for nearly a minute. Excellent wine that needs to decant at least an hour to unfurl. Rich, nuanced and fulfilling - glad I have a few more bottles. IMO this is ready to drink now but careful cellaring will yield at least 5-7 more years of pleasant drinking before it starts to peak.
Maybe a misfiring bottle? Or was there just a hint of TCA that chipped away the life and beauty of this wine. Either way this did not feel at par with what we expected nor with the notes below so we will not rate. If we had to it would have been 88-89

Big nose on the wine with hunny buns and blackcurrant. Gave the wine a 2 hour decant and the palate still felt a little muted, not sure if it needs more age or a longer decant. Even with the muted palate this was an excellent wine and would highly recommend.

5th bottle from a case bought en primeur. Huge Margaux nose of violets. Later sweet blackcurrant and leather. Full bodied. Then mineral and blueberry in the mouth. Tannins a little grainy this time but these will settle down again and promise a long future. Very long penetrating finish. Empty glass smells of cedar. Drinking well now and will have an extraordinarily long life. Depending on your taste drink now or in 50 years. This is a wine that will age beautifully. Glorious. Best wine I've had in some time.

After 5 hours opened in bottle this started to come around, very feminine wine with blue fruits and bakers spice. a bit sweet compared to the other Bordeaux. If on its own would have shined more but up against a great wine, none the less, for $110 a bottle this is in a really good place.. Damn good wine..

Nose: black pepper, cherry, stone Overall: subtleties galore, starts at the lips with a light coating of tannins, then experience layers of cherry, mineral and smooth, smooth dry pepper finish

Briefly decanted only which was not enough. 10 years of bottle age have imprinted notes of earth, leather and hints of tobacco. But the profile remains mostly fruit-forward still with dark, nicely extracted cherry fruit. Also herbal complexity of eucalyptus and mint. Similarly fruit-centric palate, tannin with a lot of grip and not fully integrated, also felt rather mouthcoating. Revisiting this after two years or so it was hard to really notice any progression here. Best to stow away for another 5+ years at least or hardcore-decant 6h+.
Definitely not at the same level as my previous review. Had the telltale lift and freshness of the '10 vintage but not much else going on really; felt lightweight and the acidity was a little pronounced.
4th bottle from a case bought en primeur. Huge Margaux nose of violets whilst I decanted. Then joined in the glass by sweet blackcurrant and leather. Full bodied with lots of now fully mature soft tannins and a very long finish. Empty glass smells of cedar. Fully ready for drinking now and will have an extraordinarily long life. Depending on your taste drink now or in 50 years like the good 1970s. This is a wine that will age beautifully. Glorious.

Still showing a serious depth of color, with just a bit of lightness around the edges, the wine remains richly textured, concentrated, lush, and packed with layers of dark red and black fruits, earth, chocolate, and espresso nuances. Drink from 2025-2045.

Drank last nite at Kindlers. No decant. Nose of black fruit, currant and black berries. Deep purple in color with no signs of aging. Fairly full-bodied wine, dark fruit is dominant. A very structured wine, with ripe black fruit, tannins are soft and elegant, leather, some forest floor and a touch of tobacco. Pleasant long finish. While drinking well currently, still a baby with a long way to go

This 2010 was tasted alongside bottles of the 2015 annd 2018. All were good. This needs 3+ hour decant. N: very floral bouquet of violets, cassis, blueberries, lots of red cherries, prunes, sweet plums, a bit of tobacco, leather, and Bordeaux funk; perfume, vanilla and rose petals; a bit of petrol heat from the alcohol; pepper, bacon fat, spicy Italian sausage, wood chips. Even on the nose something tells you this is the 2010.
Palate: refreshing, “I really like this” — a lot of round fruit, mouth coating in a delightful way, lots of fruit, especially dense cherry. Lots of red cherries. Long finish of cherries, tobacco, blueberries, old suitcase leather. A lot of tannins typical of 2010; a lot of structure; the tannins and leather still overpowered the fruit. Maybe needs more time. With time more ripe fruits appear on the palate, almost fermented fruit. The color is deep purple like RB Bordeaux. Can improve a lot with time.

This really is in an excellent spot right now! Better even than the 2009 at the moment. Such a a smooth and elegant wine, still packs a punch though with really good balance that stays harmonious right through to the long finish. An excellent modern left bank wine!

Dekantert. Vidunderlig nese, munnen følger opp, fet frukt, tanniner og syre på plass, sikkert masse potensiale, men allerede deilig. Dag 2 noe alkoholstikk på nese, tapt litt frukt.

Gorgeous. Abundance of potpourri. Striking fragrance of cassis-liked Cabernet fruit with a hint of greenness. Blackberries, raspberries and floral notes intermixed with forest floor and a hint of charcoal are followed by an opulent, full-bodied wine. Oakiness is present but not overpowering. A firm, fine-grained texture and freshness. Good, long finish.

Opened an hour before tasting. Beautiful perfume of all the things you love about France. Still drinks like a young wine despite its age. Definitely lots of earth and bell pepper. Classic Bordeaux with the elegance of Margaux.

Third bottle from a case bought en primeur. Lovely deep Margaux nose of sweet blackcurrant and violets, now joined by more secondary leather and anise. There's plenty of fruit and a very long finish. Tannins are slowly subsiding and still very evident. Empty glass smells of cedar. Drinking well now and will continue to improve. Depending on your taste drink now or in 5 years when the tannins have softened fully or in 50 years like the good 1970s are now. This is a wine that will age beautifully.
Decanted and served immediately. Fresh herbal and grassy frame presents a nice array of fruit: blueberry, black currant and cassis. First aging notes of earth and leather, too. Intense, layered and dense palate with lots of structure, but not yet fully integrated. The drinking window is just now beginning to slowly open, but a 2-3h decant would be appropriate. I’m more than happy with the structure and the direction this is taking 10+ years on.

————- A very nice wine with a beautiful garnet red color. There is a small deposit at the bottom of the bottle. I perceive aromas of candied plums, chocolate and even violets. On the palate, despite some astringency and tannins that don't seem to be fully integrated with the whole, we still taste this extraordinary candied red fruit.

Wood not yet integrated and super tannic, although with a deep black fruit profile. Needs more time, but promise is there - a few hours of air resulted in much better balance. Tried it again the next day after I corked it and put it back in the cellar, and it improved further actually allowing me to enjoy it with a rare strip steak. Nose was quite floral and flavors were complex with a much more moderate tannic feel.
This is good now; certainly can really enjoy it after 3-4 hours of air; however, time in the cellar could make this great.
Nose of black berry, black currants, black cherry, and dry, dusty gravel, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, almost elegant, and a long, long finish. Uploaded bottle photo.

Nose and tastes of black berry, currants, big body, very tasty, needs a little more cellar time to show its best, soft tannin's on the palate and finish. Your very normal Margaux with long smooth finish

In May 2020 I drink a first bottle of a case and found it too young to drink, despite a 3 hour decant. The nose was nice but muted, somewhat astringent even. And although the potential in the glass was there, it could not live up to the expectations. I wanted to see where the wine is in 2021. The setting - sit down dinner with visiting family, enjoying bbq-ed steak and vegetables - enabled us to focus appropriately on the wine. With an extra year and 6 hours of oxidation, the wine showed so much better than last year. The nose reveals much more: beautiful smells of flowers, berries, cedar, chocolate, and the flavors are starting to come out…And yet… it needs more time for the tannins to dissolve and flavors to integrate, to work away the hard edges and make the wine focus us on the here and now versus naming the potential of the future. Hold this wine. I will open my next bottle in 2022. At this pace I may have half a case in the perfect drinking window!
Nose of black berry, black currants, and dry, dusty gravel, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, needs cellar time to show its best, lots of soft tannins on the palate and finish, very Margaux like, and a long, long finish, uploaded bottle and cork photo.
In the bouquet chocolate, mocha, vanilla, espresso and ripe dark berries. Same on the palate, beautiful acidity and some pleasant bitterness. Full bodied and luxurious wine.
Dark color with a red note on the rim. Nose of currant, black plum, black tea, slate, and a hint of iodine. Full-bodied palate with black cherry, black plum, black pepper, dark earth, granite, and leather. Oak-led finish with firm tannins, pencil lea, rock soil, and plum fruit. Excellent
Nose of black berry, black currants, black cherry, and dry, dusty gravel, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, lots of soft tannins the first night overwhelmed me and I scored it 87 points, big change and positive improvement the second night, almost all tannins resolved, more fruit and more complexity on the nose and on the palate, very Margaux like, rustic elegance the second night, and a long, long finish, suggest you decant for 4 hours before trying. Uploaded bottle photo.

A tablespoon or so of sediment in the bottle. In the glass, deep red with a hint of inky purple. Nose seemed quite closed to me immediately after pouring. Primary impression is tannic, some acid, difficult to distinguish the fruit which seems to have integrated with the other flavors. Long finish with hint of cherry, plums and a whiff of damp leafy earth transitioning into herbal, savory piney notes.
After about two hours, it has really opened up. The long finish is still there, but the tannins and astringent qualities have mellowed, bringing the juicy herbal notes to the fore. A well balanced and very drinkable wine, it paired perfectly with a cassoulet and pate au campagne.
Very dark color with a red note on the rim. Nose of currant, black plum, black tea, slate, and a hint of iodine. Full-bodied palate with black cherry, black plum, black pepper, dark earth, granite, and leather. Oak-led finish with firm tannins, pencil lea, rock soil, and plum fruit. Excellent now though it has the fruit and firm tannins to develop further.
What a beautiful wine! Red and dark fruit, cherry, violets, flowers, oak and forest floor. Tasty with the pate (duck, pork and pheasant) but really this wine needed nothing and was just delicious on its own. We drank it all before the slow-roasted duck was ready to serve.
It had been decanted for perhaps 1-2 hours. I feared it was "too soon" to drink this wine, but it drinks well now.
Been a while since I open a special wine. Decant for an hour initially but not opened up fully. Left it for another 2 hour and the true potential started to reveal itself. First sniff reveal a complex note, with dark fruit, cherries, oak, vanilla, herbs, tobacco and leather. Some slight hint of forest and stone follow suit. Multiple structure layer with well balanced of acidity and alcohol. On a high tannin side though which I believe it will taste even better with at least 3 years of storage. Now to get more of these...
Opaque purple color turning violet at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose gives off dense, layered aromas of smoke and red roses on black fruits and vanilla. The palate is full-bodied, dense and fleshy in texture with ample medium plus acidity to balance the ripe blueberry, blackberry and cassis flavors. There are secondary flavors of tobacco, fig, espresso and dark chocolate to complement the long, lifted, mineral-filled, savory finish with sweet tannins. Drink now (just because the tannins are just lovely to chew on) until 2045.
First up in a vertical tasting of 2010, 2009, 2006, 2005, 2003, 1999. 1 hr double decants. This showed very well. Earthy Margaux nose. Rich, complex, multi-layered palate. Tannic finish that puckers the side of the tongue. It's reminiscent of the 2005 at this age--the 2005 was the WOTN. I bought one bottle of 2010 for the tasting and have subsequently bought three to age for the next 10-15 years. It drinks great now but patience will be rewarded if you can hold off at least to 2025.
Disappointing! I used to be a big fan of this producer, but recent bottles have been lacking.
1 hour decant. Dark purple color. Nose has oak, vanilla, and plum. The body lacks depth and has almost no fruit. More New World than Old World. Short finish. My rating might be harsh at 91, but just had higher expectations.
Pretty solid. Took only 5 hours to really open up but it’s better late than never. Once the show got going it had scents of vanilla, blueberries, garden mulch, and cherries. The tannins are still a bit obtuse. They’re still rather drying, with cackling acidity. Notes of wood, plums, cherries and some coffee. After taste doesn’t linger as long as I thought it would. It’s tasty, but still needs I’d assume 5 or so more years to be near it’s apogee.

Second bottle from a case bought en primeur. Lovely deep Margaux nose of violets, followed up with blackcurrant and mineral. There's plenty of fruit and a very long finish. Drinking well and still a little too tannic to be at its peak, which I expect in a few years time. Score should improve further in time.

2010 Château Malescot St. Exupéry was developing, structured and earthy. The third growth in Margaux was clear and deep ruby in colour with fine sediments. With half an hour of brief decanting, aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum and prune emerged, followed by graphite, liqourice and earth. On the palate, it was dry and full-bodied, balanced with medium level of acidity and rather high level of structured gripping tannin. Flavours of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke and mushroom persisted in a long earthy finish.
It was more aggressive than my expectation from Margaux appellation, probably because of the ripeness and concentration offered in the warm and dry 2010 vintage. The blend composed of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot, raised in 60% new oak barrels for 16 to 18 months.

Opened and let breath in bottle for 2.5 hours. Cacao, cherry, cassis/dark fruit, nice chewy mouthfeel. Beautifully long finish...it goes on for a couple minutes. Well-balanced acidity and tannins, and drinking very nicely.

Decanted for over three hours and it was still tight. Slowly consumed over four+ hours. Dark inky color. Rich bouquet dark raspberry, floral notes, sweet tannins. Secondary notes of cassis. Really powerful, well balanced. Accessible now but will drink well for many years to come.

Took 2nd in '09 vs '10 tasting, but not in my top 4. Even with 2.5 hour decant, this could use more, or wait 5 more years before opening the brothers. It has really good bones, but probably needs more time to get them organized.

Nose of black berry, black currants, black cherry, chopped greens/salad, and dry gravel and earth, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, rich, almost juicy fruit, hints of soft tannins suggest 3 more years in the cellar to reach its peak, and earn a higher score, and a long, lovely, flavorful finish and juicy aftertaste. Paired well with freshly cooked meatloaf. Uploaded bottle photo.
Very pretty and opulent nose of smoky violets and cassis. Very thick, dark color. A big, ripe wine for a Margaux with delicious flavors of cassis, blackberry liquor and licorice and good acidity underneath. The finish is concentrated and already complex with notes of all-spice and gravel. Is this understated and representative of the terroir of Margaux? No. Is it delicious? Yes. Young and should still improve.
Medium to full body. Decanted. A bit closed for the first hour, began to open in an hour, four hours it was fully open. Excellent aromatics of cigar box, anise and dark fruit and palate to match. Tannins integrated and not over or underwhelming; in a good place. Longish finish. Consume or hold.
Palate of black fruits, dark chocolate, sandalwood, herbs with a cinnamon spiced sweet tinge. Dense and luscious. Some acidity and sweet tannins but no issue. Enjoyed this. Ok to open now but should get better with more time.

Medium-dark ruby. Youthful color at age 9 with very typical Margaux nose of sweet spices, sandal wood, dark and red fruit, earthy scents. This feels young but at the same time shows impeccable balance of ripe fruit, crisp acidity and polished tannins, the stellar 2010 shining through loud and clear. Can be approached now but wait till 2025 if you want to see it at peak. A modern, but very good interpretation of Margaux. 94-95
Medium to deep ruby, true to the rim. With a couple hours of air this reveals a textbook Margaux nose, exceptionally pretty and charming, with aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, plum, violets, chopped green herbs and lots of gravel. On the palate this is medium+ bodied, with medium+ acidity, a medium+ level of quite fine, though still grippy tannins and a simply ethereal mix of black fruit, mineral and herb flavors. This is classic and elegant but not austere or lacking fruit. While it drinks well now it will surely drink better in the future.

First bottle from a case bought en primeur. Decanted. Violets as I opened the bottle then blackcurrant with a hint of herbs. Later raspberry. Lots of mineral. Good body. Needs a couple more years for the tannins to fall out. Score could improve a lot.
This will warrant a higher score in 5-10 more years. Today, it is excellent, but still very youthful. Already showing secondary notes of tobacco, charcoal, concerntrated red fruit with a persistent but slightly grainy finish. Very Maragaux, but still needs time in bottle to reach full maturity.

MNB: Left Bank Bdx Communes (Home (Noe st)): (blind) Medium plus ruby, ruby rim. Strange nose - not very aromatic. Slightly burnt. Slight toast. Slight brett - earthy mushroomy fur. Vanilla - new oak with lots of toast. Eucalyptus-menthol (pyrazines? eugenol). Tannic, with tight blackcurrant and 100% new French oak. High tannins. 14%. Tight fruit. Savage but over time, the blackcurrant comes out more.
2012 St. Estephe, $70. 65% cab, 30% merlot, 5% cab franc. 2010 Malescot St. Exupery $100
55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot with the remainder evenly split between Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

3 hour decant (mag decanter). Wow is this bottle so different than the last and not in a good way. While it is pretty, floral and has backbone it has none of the utterly profound qualities of the last bottle opened a little over 1 1/2 years ago. This bottle came from a different provider than my usual JJ Buckley. Makes me wonder about authenticity or provenance. Perhaps the wine is just now in a dumb phase.

Decanted for 1.5h. The fruit profile shows mostly berries with a tendency towards darker ones; also violets and very faint tertiary earthy and petrol-like notes. Nice and round with a good balance right from the beginning, a full body and long finish. No harm in starting to drink this already now.

Fabulous bouquet, silky tannins, elegant, purity and complex. flavors of dark berries, cassis, truffle, tobacco, and violets. great power, but soft and velvet texture, extreme long after taste, layers after layers, and on and on... Mouth watering seriously delicious! Had a marbled ribeye paired with this wine - a prefect match! Love it!

Eight hour decant. Deep ruby magenta color. Very little evidence of age. Black currant, boysenberry, tar, gala apple and red licorice on the nose. Smooth, dry, grippy palate. Full, round tannins on the medium long finish. This is still drinking young, but there’s tons of potential. If you plan to drink this anytime soon, I’d suggest a 12-18 hour decant.

Gorgeous deep red. Deep blackberry mixed (oddly) with cotton candy on the nose. Blackberry seeds, blackberries, and wonderful tannins.

Very expressive nose of bright red and blue fruit, tart and slightly ripe at the same time. This also has beautiful, soft spices and leafy tobacco notes. The tannins are fine and add grip on the medium-long finish. This should be spectacular in 5 - 10 years. 94+

My third vintage of this wine; 1998, 2007 and 2010. Somewhere inbetween modern and traditional. Definetly not "big", which I find positive. Not much charachter, however. Plain, is maybe the right word. Preferred the 1998 over the 2010.

As expected much too early - drank over 4 hours and the last sip revealed a bit of whats in store if I wait at least 6 - 8 years....will however never reach the same level as the 2004 which is fabulous.....
This is a very interesting wine. PnP for a small sampling then left to decant for 4-5 hours. I took a few sips along the way to plot out its development. On opening, the nose was very cab franc/green pepper with spicy briary notes mixed in. Some fruitiness early on and in the middle but by the end, most of the fruit has receded and you have an herbal/spicy cassis beauty. The entry has some juiciness, mild black current, more cassis, tannins throughout and beautiful acidic backbone. The finish is still quite astringent as the wine has a certain "dry" characteristic that exists from opening to consumption no matter the time. The finish is good and long and only just a tinge of heat at the very end. There is little if any oak presence to the wine, no sweetness but a clean and well-made Bourdeaux. I usually like a little more fruit than this, but the subtle power of this wine is so very good. This wine cuts through the fat of a perfectly pan grilled organic ribeye like a hot knife through butter. 95 in its raw, yet refined beautiful state, a 96 -97 if just a little more sweetness to the tannin or more fruit present, IMO.
addendum: put a cork in the last 3rd of the bottle last night (after it had decanted for 5 hours) and finished it tonight with my special homemade spaghetti/meatballs. Wow! Some mild changes over the next 24 hours in bottle including a distinct yet mild "grape jelly" nose a few minutes after removing the cork stopper! A little more fruit detected in the flavor profile as a result and a little less astringency to the tannins. Still a dark garnet color but the tinge of alcohol on the end is gone and the finish is shorter and less powerful. Went very well with the meal. I'm not usually one who enjoys a bottle the next day but this was pretty decent and easily softer and more food friendly the second day. I doubt it had enough power left to tackle the ribeye I had last night with it, though.

I've met a new girl and her name is Margaux. Just kidding....happily married for over 21 years, but wow what an amazing wine from my favorite appellation in Bordeaux. 2 hour decant (mag decanter) then back to bottle. Notes after 15 minutes added glass air time.
Nose: Very morphic (at one point it had cotton candy aromas...I kid you not) with graphite, pencil lead and earth. With glass air time added aromas of cedar, cherries, moss, assorted spices, flowers and blueberry. Just a spectacular nose! Could easily be confused as a first growth from a great year...yes, it's that good! Palate: While quite young with a great deal of decant time this shows very well with high toned acids, accessible tannins, and an abundance of dark fruits. Blackberries, blueberry and cherry hints all balanced by the big tannins, graphite, earth and a long finish. Very balanced even at this very young stage in it's life (with a big decant) this is a spectacular wine that has a very long life ahead. 95 points for now w/ very real 96 or higher potential w/ age. Glad I have 6 more left. Bravo!
Tasting note upon first opening and pouring into a decanter. Bright maroon color. The nose is fairly closed at this point. Palate is light on fruit currently but tannins are moderate and extend an inteterest coffee note into the Medium + finish. Three hours after opening tasted against 12 other 2009-2010 left bank wines. It held up well. Lighter red than many, balanced light toast and fruit with noticeable but mellow tannins on the finish.

CAB Bordeaux AOCs (Pat's): Tasted blind. Trace of heat on the nose. Nose wants to show, but is shy. Not sure if this had been decanted. Hint of forest floor. Extremely dry, cedar, pencil shavings, gripping. Clearly left bank.

Revising score up - what do you want from a great wine - a bouquet that evolves and complexity that engages your senses , taste that captures your attention and an experience that you cherish and that lingers ! This wine has all that - it does need an hour plus decant but the way it develops after that is incredible - from nutty and sweet oak to perfumed flowers to coffee and mocha to dark chocolate / creme brûlée to finally cigar box , tobacco and cigar box - and I then go back to my original comments !
What a bold and opulent wine ! VentUri pour and decanted 44 mins ( on hindsight an hour plus is needed ) - Yes a little too young right now but it still is quite approachable with very fine tannins and a robust structure. The color is deep and lustrous and the nose shows up as soon as you open the bottle - the sign that this is a good Margaux. Maybe a tad overextracted ? The toasted wood and nuts element is quite forthcoming but it's not very oaky - in fact I kind of liked it - it adds to the element of sweetness and fruitiness that a young wine should have. There is a lt of ripe juicy red fruit there with spring flowers and hay making an entry after about 30 minutes of air. The wine is already quite rich and opulent , full bodied but some air somehow adds more weight to the body. On the palate the attack is fresh and sweet, fruity but not jammy , opulent and lush - the finish is quite long ( 30 seconds plus) and surprisingly savory. I think this is a keeper and will evolve much better in a few years when it is more integrated. Both of my fellow drinkers agreed this was the WOTN ( drank after a 96 bel air pomerol and a meursault grand cru).It has all the makings of a great wine and would probably be a great value for the already great 2010 vintage. Note to self - get a case and put it in the back - Stock up and hold on !

Mini-Bordeaux 9's & 10's (Vintage Cellars, Double Bay): On the nose sweet spice, slight bonfire, blackcurrant ad bramble, polished oak also slightly meaty. Broad and juicy on the palate talc textured tannins joins savoury, brambly, blackcurrant fruit and sweet spice almost immediately and all carry long. Very pleasant. Lovely in fact.

This wine is not ready to drink! It needs time to release the slight bitterness of the finish and incorporate all the components. Its very powerful and long, not very Margaux...In time, this has all the assets to improve significantly..If you have to drink one soon, be sure to decant for at least 3 hours to let the alcohol float off...HOLD

Coravined into a glass and followed for 2 hours. Tight. More definition and structure than the 2009. Opened up and fleshed out slightly with air, but this really needs bottle age. Very little complexity, but loads of potential. 90+

Wine tasting with wine guy and then dinner with friends. New world for certain but drinking nice today as many 2010's are. Big rich fruit but the balance is there. It is hard to know what the aging prospects are since the tannins and acidity are well balanced today. Sorry the notes offer more.

Very drinkable now, but needs time to open up. Not very "fruit-forward", but that's not a bad thing. Hints of Blackberry and lead pencil on nose early, but developing amazingly. I decanted and drank over about a 4 hour period. Started to really open up at the end. I will be getting more of this for sure!

2010 Arrivage at Baur au Lac (Baur au Lac Hotel, Zurich): The score is actually a 86-94. This can become fantastic, but it can also fall apart completely. So I give it a benefit of the doubt and give it a mid-way score. The point is that now it ha a huge acidity but also a niceand interesting sweetness with amaretto like notes.

Inky in color, this elixir pops the moment the wine hits your glass with licorice, smoke, black and blue fruits, jam, chocolate and coffee bean scents. This blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot is incredibly powerful, polished, rich and opulent, if not decadent, this silky Margaux wine was made for hedonistic, Bordeaux lovers

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Despite owning a case of the 2005 I have not tried it yet. Did try the 2000 and thought the 2010 was superior. Approachable fruit wine. Moderate tannins in comparison. Notes of raw meat and crushed grape skins. 93 points.

2010 Bordeaux UGC Chicago (The Drake Hotel, Chicago IL): Nose: There is a real robust take on the nose with tones of dark red cherries, leather, cedar, spice box and dark berry tones. There is also very good depth to it even though it is on the tight side right now.
Taste: Medium/full bodied with grippy tannins. The structure makes itself known, but there are really good tones of dark red cherries, leather, cedar, and dark berries lying underneath.
Overall: This has some good material hiding underneath a wall of structure. This was one of the better Margauxs tasted.

Definitely showing some oak and modern style, with some perfume on the nose. Palate is way tannic but less brooding than a lot of the wines today. True to reputation, this feels kind of modern; open, but not overextracted, and not as inscrutable as the Prieure Lichine on first taste.

2010 UGC Bordeaux Tasting (Palace Hotel, SF): Riper style, red fruits, vanilla; rich full bodied, red and black fruits, new oak, very structured (more than others in Margaux this year). Will need a lot of time. This was enjoyable, but it lacks the pure Margaux character that I found in the Lascombes. 89-91

Union des Grands Crus 2010 Bordeaux Tasting (Palace Hotel - San Francisco): Fantastic nose exhibiting tons of rich cassis and black cherry, lead pencil, as well as some dark dried fruits. Very smooth and balanced on the palate with great velvety texture, showing sweet black cherries, cassis, and lead pencil. Great richness without going over the top. Very good+

Inky, dark purple in color, this Margaux wine explodes from the glass with scents of fresh picked flowers, blackberry jam, vanilla, caramel, cassis, coffee and truffle aromas. In the mouth, this expansive Bordeaux wine is filled with sweet, ripe, plush tannins, opulent textures and a rich, ripe, round, opulent texture that finishes with a long, sweet, pure, blackberry jam finish. When asked which of his two most recent Bordeaux wines he likes best, the owner and wine maker Jean Luc Zuguer said, “I prefer the structure of the 2010 over the more exotic 2009.” 2010 Malescot St. Exupery was offered at 60 Euros. I liked this wine a lot. It’s a wine I purchased for my own cellar. 95-96 Pts

Malescot St. Exupery Blending 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot with the remainder evenly split between Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this Margaux wine reached 14% alcohol. This is not a taste by the numbers wine. There is no sensation of heat in this beauty. Aromas of tobacco, cigar ash, stone, blackberry and floral scents pop from the glass with little effort. Mouth coating layers of concentrated, dense, ripe, sweet dark berries, powerful tannins and freshness. Rich, thick and flavorful, with a boatload of tannin, this Bordeaux wine will require over a decade of time in the cellar. Pairing high quality, style and price, this merits serious attention. 95-97 Pts

A very nice wine with a beautiful garnet red color. There is a small deposit at the bottom of the bottle. I perceive aromas of candied plums, chocolate and even violets.

A tablespoon or so of sediment in the bottle. In the glass, deep red with a hint of inky purple. Nose seemed quite closed to me immediately after pouring.

Tannic, with tight blackcurrant and 100% new French oak.
High tannins. 14%. Tight fruit. Savage but over time, the blackcurrant comes out more.

** re Tasted on 16 July from half bottle **
