Saturday, August 26, 2023 - Purchased from the winery. Initially I was getting a lot of cooked vegetable DMS notes but as it opens in the bottle that is blowing off. Open for about 3.5 hours at this point; really should have been decanted but I don’t really trust any of the pitcher-shaped objects in this Airbnb are clean lol. Anyway, this is definitely new world; nose is ripe, almost raisinated, all fruit (mostly preserved), maybe a hint of savory green herbs. Palate brings a little more interest; clay, char, earth, licorice, a little bit of a minty aftertaste. Tannins still quite strong but smooth, still enough acidity to hold it all together. I doubt this is going to get more exciting, and I probably wouldn’t run out and buy more, but it did pair nicely with smoked chicken and stargazing on a clear night.
