Sunday, January 22, 2017 - Dinner with Monthly Group at Yan (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): Absolutely delicious. Rather riper than a classic Kabinett and still very primary, but this was very nice when paired with Lo Hei and a variety of other Cantonese dishes. On the nose, a little stream of petroleum drifted past ripe aromas of stone fruit, vanilla bean and flinty mineral. The palate was a lovely dance of bright, lemony acidity with pure stone fruit flavours, with white peach at the fore, and the a lovely floral lilt. It packed a real punch with a great seam of energy and easily Spatlese depth. Strong finish too, driven along with sweet lemons and a quiet mineral note. Not the most complex, but very yummy, and will improve.
