Friday, January 19, 2024 - Expressive nose that made itself known as soon as I popped the cork - raspberry and red cherry with warm spices and some savory notes. This was a last minute decision and didn't have time for a full decant - P&Pd and let sit for 30 minutes in the glass, which turned out to be just fine. Beautiful violet/dark ruby red moving to transparent at the edges. Moderately sweet red fruit on the front of the palate with maybe just a bit of blue-black, nicely judged acidity through the mid palate and very present but refined tannins on a long finish. It's big, bold wine to be sure but not heavy and, despite the 14.5% ABV, did not taste hot or alcoholic. I expected this to taste dark and heavy and while we were surprised that it wasn't, that didn't detract at all from our enjoyment. Will be interesting to see how this develops and if some of the tertiary elements come more to the fore - right now this is still primarily fruit-driven which is fine for now but will check in on the evolution every three or so years.
