91 Points

Saturday, January 8, 2011 - This is, I think, quite under-rated. This was one of the more enjoyable bottles of Burg I have had in recent times. I cracked this because I read Burghoud's initial review projecting that 2011 would be past the tail end of the drinking window. This bottle was far, far younger than that (my girlfriend aptly suggested this wine is likely at the front end of the drinking window). Still relatively youthful, showing only some development (positive). A relatively large-scaled Burg (right for a Gevrey 1er) with tremendous spiciness (almost a cayenne heat, but not at all from alcohol). Robust fruit and still good structure. A bit of lovely game meat. Some earth, but this is more of a "clean" wine. Nits to pick? Could use a bit more midpalate weight, and could be a touch more refined. But when wine is this enjoyable, who cares?
