Sunday, January 15, 2012 - Fruit for our Viognier comes from an area near the Sacramento Delta. This was a new wine area that we have heard little about. It was and is an amazing find. The grapes were harvested in September of 2009. Characteristics of this Viognier include apricot, peach and other stone fruit flavors. It is dry and pleasantly spicy in the finish. The alcohol is 13.5%, and the wine is perfectly balanced This wine, while fruity is absolutely dry. This Viognier was aged in Hungarian oak (60%) and the rest in stainless steel. The wine in stainless was stirred on the lees for approximately 4 months to increase its creamy aspects. If a few words could describe the 2009 Viognier, they would be "Crisp, Balanced and Fruity", with a very nice long finish. This iwine is great for sipping or as an accompaniment to any fish or fowl dish. Cheeses are easily paired with this wine, and we often do just this!
