Thursday, October 11, 2012 - Clear dark garnet core out to a purple edge and very thin white rim. Clean nose of damp clay, dark cherry, strawberry, nutmeg and an umami/savoury character. This after being in the glass for 20 minutes - when first pop and poured, it was all red fruit and little else. Decant! or at least give it some time in the glass - it's such a baby right now. In the mouth it's savoury with dark fruit and earthy/savoury components - dense but with uplifting acidity, minerality and a lightness on the palate. Medium plus acidity, medium body, tannins and medium plus alcohol (although it's well hidden). Warm on the back palate from the alcohol but it's a good warmth. The finish is medium with the black fruit and savoury elements continuing. This is going to age beautifully. 3-5 years at least but I'd like to see where it is in 10 years.
