This is the sulfured S version. Stood up for several weeks then decanted off fine sediment for 1.5h then back into bottle and drank over 4h. From memory. Just lovely stuff that got better throughout the night. Lovely ripe cherry fruit with a bit of bubblegum that said gamay but then also more pinot flavors come through such that the wine sits somewhere in between. Accented by some spices and herbs. Body is on light-medium but lacks a bit of depth. Nice finish. Overall, a lovely wine that was a pleasure to drink 91+

Dark cherry, rhubarb, sarsaparilla, black olive. High toned with black fruits, tapenade, balsamic vinegar, and herbs. Still displaying a carbonic signature, I found it more enjoyable after a good shake. Should maintain for the next handful of years.

My last bottle. Early on in its life, this was the best vintage of Lapierre in the early 2010s (along with '14 perhaps, but 14s have always been more prickly), and it still is. Pretty cherry fruit, now mellowed out, a few nice secondary notes (baking spice, earth). As with the other Lapierres of this era that I opened recently, needed air. Not great on opening, I'd recommend a short decant.

This has aged gracefully. Still dominated by light and fresh red berry and cherry fruit with only few tertiary notes, some floral and mineral touch. Light plus bodied, sweet fruit, nice length. I think it’s now time to drink up.

Limpid cherry red color. On the nose, it's lifted, perfumed and heady, with an alluring mixture of dried flowers, sweet spice, cedar, underbrush, baked cherry pie, and kirsch. With a bit of air as it sits in the glass, it gets a bit earthier with the tree-bark / wet forest floor aspects gaining in intensity and the fruit receding. On the palate, the main impression it leaves me with is one of vitality, with great energy in the fruit, intense spicy lift, and a sort of weightless texture. Compared with an average Beaujolais, it stands apart not by virtue of its flavor profile, but rather due to depth, balance, and tension. It seems very alive, and very harmonious. The finish is also particularly noteworthy for its length and intensity, without feeling at all heavy. It just lingers pleasantly on, inviting you back to the glass.

Lapierre traditionally trades at a premium, and I admit I have often passed in favor of better "values" in cru beaujolais. This bottle suggests that has been a mistake, as it is lovely. Youthful color, nice cherry and herb flavor, zippy acidity and a long finish. This comes off as elegant but is distinctively gamay. Really nice.

A shocking turnaround after 24 hours open. Yesterday it tasted too old, with a bitter, desiccated finish. James was able to guess that it was Beaujolais. I was ready to lump it in with mismanaged Pinot Noir. Today it is as it should be: a gliding, savory, weightless mouthful of black and red, impelling little, curled harmonics of all the berry fruits. Yesterday I allowed that it might be good served with food; but as I finish this there is none on the table. Yesterday I allowed that it might be good while engaging in conversation with a cigarette-smoking lady; but as I finish it today there are only kitty-cats!

Medium ruby - unfiltered Medium aromas of candied cherry with earth/rock and touch of mint Very Pinotish at this point and quite gorgeous Rather broad and beautiful palate of red fruit and fresh herbs Medium plus acidity and medium well integrated tannins
I love my Beaujolais young but this wine reminds me why I always stick some bottles back in the cellar This has lost its crunch and morphed into a beautifully balanced wine Not sure any further development lies ahead but could safely age for another 3-5 yrs - this was version with sulfites

Last of 6 bottles. Consumed with some leftovers on Black Friday, as well as a freshly roasted turkey. The Morgon popped with strawberry goodness, showing flavors of woody stems and wet earth. What a delicious Bojo, for $26 USD, an amazing value, and a case-purchase for me in the future.

Ruby red in color. 12.5% ABV. Sublime nose of red fruits, damp forest floor, earth and minerals. Light to medium body with bright acidity. Elegance and grace defined. Cherries, cranberries and earth on the palate. The finish is long, delicate and seamless. Another really nice bottle from a winery that delivers year after year after year. Delicious with and without food. A wine that can be enjoyed shortly after bottling or after 10 years in the cellar. Well done! This version will drink well for years to come.

I’ve had this going for 4 days now and it hasn’t budged a notch. Opens up with distinct barnyard notes that blow off after a while and gives way to cranberry fruit, bitter and dusty, and earthy marks (not unlike a Jura). Light with good acidity, I believe this will age extremely well.

Drunk with dinner, no formal notes, but from memory: intense nose of red fruit and fresh cut grass, great liveliness, round, intense. Maybe not the greatest of depths, but still very good.

A flight of 09,10 and 11. The 09 initially showed a meaty, dark quality - it was frustratingly dense and dull but the pure, easy soft fruit of the 10, or the classic length, structure and balance of the 11 seemed more appealing. By the end of the night, the 09 caught up and passed them as it opened up, as it showed it has more depth than 10 and more appeal than the 11. A reminder of why we praise these warm vintages.

A good deal of Brett afflicts this N bottle; smells and tastes like a Band-Aid was plunged into the glass and then removed just before I took a sip. There's some nice fruit in there but, in this bottle at least, it's fighting a losing battle. Drat.
Slight overlay of funkiness on the deliciously plump and robust bojo fruit nose. Tart cherries along with a broad substrate of savory dark mineral goodness. Plentiful supporting acids on the palate. Beautifully resolved and integrated. When bojo is in its sweet spot like this, I wonder why I drink anything else. Good match with roasted vegetable salad with shallot vinagrette. Got one more left and will open it soon.

Drank 2009, 2010, and 2011 together. 2009 started out the best, but time open brought some stronger barnyard on the nose. 2010, with some fruit still present but some complexity underlying was the best of the three.

Opened next to a 2010 Rhys Bearwallow Pinot Noir. The Morgon has an immediately noticeable dirt-infused nose, showing bright red cherry pit, watermelon rind, rocks and asphalt, and a hint of spice. The palate is fresh and vibrant, due to the lively acidity and only 12.5% abv. Gorgeous structure due to the grippy tannins and tart acidity. Flavors of cherry pit, plum skin, rocks and minerals, spice, and a hint of licorice. The finish is moderate, just as expected. This is a case-buy for me all day long, I love these wines. Incredible value at $26/bottle. Drink now through 2020+.

("S") Half way through a case this is, for me, my favorite vintage of the last ten (which is about as far back as my memory goes). This was another terrifically enjoyable bottle -- indeed, it outshone a 2010 opened two days earlier.

Camphor on the nose. On the palate, raspberry, strawberry, and notes of cranberry and white pepper on the medium finish, with good acidity. This is tasty and pleasant, but lacks the "wow" factor of the 2009. It's a fair value at about $30.

I read notes where some tasters seem to view 09 as a freaky vintage, and that more classical vintages like 11 would be better. 11 is a nice Morgon, but if you've tasted 09, for me there is a clear winner: 09, more of everything. 11 is fine, but don't see much upside in holding these longer. Don't see the downhill approaching fast either though.

My favorite of recent Lapierre vintages (compared to '13, '12, and '10 on recent night). Classic red fruits there but mineral core and acid make this most interesting and fresh. Really lovely. Drinking well now with some air.

PnP: Bright red cherry fruit on the nose, with some moist soil, a hint of cooking spice, and a slight vanillin note. The palate is simple yet delicious, and just gorgeous, showing bursting red cherry fruit, followed closely by sappy, deep plum flavors, then menthol, and wet gravel. Silky smooth tannins, tense acidity, and a fairly long and quite pleasing finish. Drink now through 2022+. Delicious.

Popped and poured, then followed over three days. This is fantastic. Complex nose, first some light barnyard, which soon dissipates. Dark fruit, spices, some black pepper. Wonderfully lightfooted on the palate, but at the same time with very intense flavors, similar to what the nose offered, but in addition a strong mineral, savory component. Just a joy to drink, especially with food. One of the best Beaujolais I have drunk (well, admittedly I did not drink sooo many yet).

Perennial favorite for weeknight glass of wine. Easy to drink, lots of fruit but also spice. Built on acidity rather than tannin. Not as opulent as 09 and perhaps a bit closed on the nose upon opening right now, but still great.

After a totally underwhelming Brun Morgon last night here is a return to form. This is an S bottle and it's a terrific display of fresh, pure, full-on fruit. I am reminded of the little strawberries that are in season right now. Very, very drinkable--as in gulps, not sips--and thoroughly enjoyable.

Darker garnet colour - maybe showing some bottle age. This is a lot better than a couple years ago. The angles have been smoothed out and there's no more astringency. Red fruits and some earthiness. Medium weight.

It's been a couple of years since I've had one of these. It's an "N" bottle, so no sulfur. It has an overlay of brett (despite being perfectly stored). Not really a fan of this in Bojo. Beyond that, I'd say the wine is in a sedate, rather than dumb phase. It's lost all its youthful energy and crunchy brashness but not replaced it yet with much savory gravitas. It's o.k. Just not particularly memorable at the moment. I will keep my remaining bottles a while longer.

Excellent!

Really drinking well now. Crushed berries, with a real bright, juicy strawberry/raspberry fruitiness. But it's not overtly ripe like '09. More minerality here, and some iron/meaty notes. Despite the persistent juicy fruit, it's light on its feet. Easy drinking, but serious, and eminently a mighty tasty glass of wine.

Opened intitially last night, TN is from 12+ hours later...after being in the cellar temp over night. A villages level wine from a top producer and a top Cru village. A nice, fresh looking pale ruby/purple color in the glass. Nose shows off fresh red apple skin, strawberry, raspberry jam, then a hint of asphalt and rocks. Quite perfumey and orchard-fresh...but there is a simultaneous sappy depth to the fresh fruit aromas. The palate is med- in body, and the dirty rocks and asphalt actually hit me first, along with an iodine quality, which was pleasantly unexpected. The deeper-pitched sappy yet fresh red fruit builds in the background, eventually overcoming the soil flavors, and pushing through to the med length, very delicious finish. There is great med+ acidity, and with the depth of fruit and soil notes and ample acidity, this wine can last quite some time. Drinking beautifully now as a young Beaujolais, but it will improve in bottle through 2017+ and likely drink well through 2023 or so. Great wine, great value, I will search out this wine and producer to take up some space in my cellar...

cherry, chrysthanthemum and mineral aromas. More mineral than fruit expressed in the nose. Palate shows such a guzzle-able concentrate and acid balance. Day 3. WOW. Wild berry aromas, unlike Lapierre I remember. Concentrated and fleshy on the nose and palate.. bursting red berry fruit aromas. Palate is solid, dark and waxy red berry, not so identifiable berry, wild berry. Pomegranate? The fleshy sweetness of Luxardo Maraschino cherries, but not the cherry part, perhaps. In Canada.

Haven't had a bad bottle/vintage yet. Translucent ruby. Wonderful cranberry, cinnamon nose & entry with lemony-juicy lingering finish. Now if they would only ditch those blasted wax capsules!
Lots of deposit. The aroma profile has more of "sour cherries" than the lovely -10, and this sulphured version of -11 isn't quite as much fun as the zero-so2. Still a very efficient food companion - perfect with grilled chicken diavolo style.

This one was unfortunately flawed. Probably stored too warm for too long time, the oxidizated "barnyard" tones that usually are nicely balanced was all over it. Pity. Still two more bottles in storage, hopefully they have managed better.

I really enjoyed this - particularly on the second day. It had a hint of that particularly biodynamic/ organic flavor, but very well integrated - as was the fruit, and nice crisp minerality, and pleasant crisp acid. Nice, well-balanced.

Opened for 90-minutes, then put in fridge for 10-minutes to bring it down to the low 60s. What a revelation. On the nose, demure but inviting. This is a totally integrated wine; every aspect in perfect balance with the others. No intrusive heat and just enough alcohol to remind you that this is an adult's pleasure. And the fruit, present but not overwhelming. A wonderful wine!
P.S. Papies, my back label omits the advice yours gave you about consuming withing 5-years of bottling. But it sounds reasonable.

A slight murkiness to the translucent ruby color. Intriguing nose - a sauvage accent here, with earthy red berries and minerality.
Pronounced acidity, almost an astringent note - just popped & poured, so we'll see if some air tames this a little. Interesting, and perhaps too young to truly appreciate?

Seems lighter than the last time a had this wine. Ruby red color. Red currant, pomegranate on the palate with good minerality. It just seems a little incomplete as compared to the last bottle I had. Either way, Marcel Lapierre is a great producer and while it is getting pricey you are always assured a solid product.

oct 2013 drank over 3 days, decanted on day 1 for 1 hour nice cork
color - nice glossy magenta , nothing to worry about nose - started off a bit closed and by the end, this was opening up with nice bright cherry, a little under brush and some licorice. really nice and expressive. by day 3, the fruit had faded on the nose. i would not say this was "earthy" but more along the lines herbs, licorice and perhaps some bark palate - this started off more along the line of red fruit, bright and alive. as time passed, the wine became darker, more astringent ( in a good way ) with licorice and a slight hint of root beer. over, this turned out very nicely. i am so happy that i had bought 3 bottles at around 15 euros. if i find more, i will not hesitate to buy another1 or 2. next bottle will be opened in perhaps 3 years and i might save the last one for its 10th birthday. this was my first lapierre and i am a fan.

Organic. From magnum. I was disappointed by this. It tastes like a normal well-balanced beaujolais with just a tiny bit extra in the minerality stakes. But that hardly explains a price tag at least three times that of a normal beaujolais. Perhaps it's closing down?

M11TRS 03 / 09 / 12 designation here so this is the bottling with a bit of sulphur ( unlike trN which has zero or so). No decanting here just served and we didn't feel it needs it. Quite ripe, meaty wine, forward, yet fresh and vibrant. The nose is on the light side, light cherry, light meaty, a bit of spicy edge to it. On the palate t is quite rich, ripe fruit and a nice sweet core but lacks magic and just feels a straight forward wine. Good wine though and interesting to see the notes of the winemaker at the back label that this should be consumed within 5 years of bottling.

Took to Sam's and found this to be a bit funky upon opening. I actually thought light TCA and tucked it away with 1/3 gone. Day 3. Wow, beautiful cherry and raspberry fruit aromas. Soft cinnamon expression. Fine grained texture to the palate with a modestly waxy fruit appeal. Not super floral tonight, but also lacking much of any greenness. A seemless, yet refreshing balance, that doesn't draw any attention to its acid. Dare I say, it's this kind of showing that makes me love Lapierre wines so much.

Rich, cinnamon and nutmeg on the nose with some cherry high notes, and a little earthiness. Almost a slight impression of VA here, but not too much to be offensive. The palate comes off as sweet, but only because the fruit is so concentrated. Earthy on the palate, with spice and cherry and med/long finish. This is how Beaujolais should taste.

From magnum, "S" bottle. Similar notes to last one; perfect slightly chilled for hot summer evening BBQs when the last thing you want is a 15% wine!
So far I know only Lapierre (natural), Foillard (spicy) and Burgaud (juicy & darker), Chermette (freshness). I welcome any other great QPR recommendations from any of the Beaujolais Villages Crus.
Always a crowd pleaser with its pinkish medium ruby color, aroma of cherry candy and licorice, light body and medium pleasant finish. Very focused, refreshing, and fruit forward yet elegant and distinguished from the rest.

Much better bottle than the one I tried nearly a year ago. This tasted like a very typical gamay, which for me means sulphur, raspberry and stone. I liked this wine, but it lacked the complexity I would expect for the hype. I have a hard time giving this 90 points.

Beaujolais & Bourgogne (The Wine Country, Signal Hill, CA): "N" bottle. Nose was tight, but showed some fresh strawberries. On the palate, some pretty and pure Gamay fruit, light-bodied for a Morgon, with abundant acidity. Seemed lighter and with less depth than the last bottle of this I tried.

The 'S'-version. Strong dark garnet color, very transparent. The nose is the epitome of bright and pure Gamay fruit and granite soil influence: beautiful perfectly ripe cherry, raspberry and violets along with some minor salty, meaty and iron notes. On the palate juicy and moreish as hell. Light bodied and quite dry with a perfect balance between ripe fruit and high acidity. More fruit forward - though savoury - than the nose, this is mostly pure cherry and raspberry fun. The finish however is very minerally, stony even, and superbly palate-cleansing. Extremely refreshing and delicious stuff, I now understand why the magnum is so widely offered. I had read some less than praising comments about this vintage but I think this is top notch stuff. Beautifully crafted from obviously great raw materials, what's not to like?

Again, i had this with friends over dinner at La Sardine in Chicago. Sappy red fruit on the palate with good minerality and acidity. Very good wine that i enjoy with dinner.

Lovely, red-fruited and luscious. No hard edges to this wine, just a juicy expression of Gamay. Jean and I felt that this was the most appealing vintage of this wine in years.

Better than the other bottles in the case although still not to the level of others I have had. Lesson learned is to only buy the Kermit Lynch bottles in the future. Sappy red fruits with clean minerality on the finish.

Salutations

Lots of density, dried flowers, dried herbs, blueberry pie. Silky, concentrated, tangy and subtle underlying crunchiness. A prickly finish with a touch of bitters. ★

Enjoyed over several hours to see how the wine evolved. Raspberry and oak with a slight tannic finish on the palate. The fruit and tanins softened over the course of the evening to reveal ripe berries. This wine definitely has life left in it. This is a very nice QPR.

Consistent with previous note. Loved the signature floral nose, crunchy fruit, touch of iron, and silky texture. I need to keep my hands off my remaining bottles, as this wine feels as though it will improve with a little more age.

I had feared this was another bad bottle as wine had leaked through the cork. While it wasn't perfectly sound it was still in decent shape. Still nothing like the bottle I had in Paris. I suspect my lot was heat damaged.

A nice light and refreshing Morgon. I always think of strawberries when I drink one of Lapierre's Morgons. But this is lighter than 2010 which I happen to like better.

Definitely a charmer. I loved the 10 and it was my reference point drink last summer for a month and a half. Unfortunately the 10 is gone and I didnt save any of it (common problem). This is lighter, lower in alcohol and less rich. It is lovely and simple. Spicy. Bright red fruit. It is a wonderful bottle. From an 'S'

An 'N' bottle: If I tell myself that this seemed to have more up front fruit straight out of the bottle when compared to the 'S' bottle of a month ago I'm not sure that wouldn't merely be the effects of the power of suggestion. Can definitely say, though, that this bottle, too, was sumptuously fruity with a bit of spice around the edges.

Another flat bottle the case I bought from Binny's in Chicago. Just like the last one, the wine wasn't corked or oxidized, it was just dead in the bottle. What a stark contrast to the brilliant bottle of this same wine that I had in Paris a week ago.

The previous tasting notes are spot on. Very delicious, well-balanced wine. red fruit, lavender, earth on the palate. Round mouthfeel, not too dry, not too much fruit (though there is fruit). Held up over multiple days in the wine fridge.

I have tasted this wine 3 times in probably 4 months, and it continues to impress, and in fact gets better. It does not have the acidity of the 2010 vintage, but is a very broad and lush, and not sappy. This wine if you can hold will be better with some time in the cellar. However, it drinks great right now, and is another superb effort from Mathieu.

Another fine vintage for this wine, for me perhaps even preferable to the very good '10s at this stage. Stoney red fruits, baking spices, saline tang, and a nice floral dollop of semi-carbonic pine resin poised on a delicately lifted midpalate. High-toned without flirting with volatility, and effortlessly graceful.

Light ruby. Some tart cherry fruit with a dusting of herbs. Fleeting impression but very pleasing texture. This is showing much better than a bottle tasted roughly a month ago shortly after it landed. The fruit is not as succulent as in the prior two vintages, but it now outweighs the more herbal elements.

Decanted for two hours...Bright red fruits, red flowers and a dank nose. Crispy bright red fruits dominate the palate: Raspberry, fresh strawberry, red cherries, cranberry and a clean minerality. The acidity dominates this wine, I'd give it some time.

'S' bottle. Initial aromas remind me of a bowl of ripe little red fruits. Juicy, red-fruited palate gains and gains volume with air. Fresh and juicy. Benefits drastically from two-plus hours of carafage. In the mold of the 2010, which is saying something as that was probably my no. one 'go-to' wine for 2012. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Succulent and joyous as always, with wild cherry and floral nose and the usual Lapierre marriage of silky texture and refreshing acidity on the palate. At this stage, the minerality is taking a backseat to the primary elements, but it's definitely still got the usual mineral and earthy tones present. Really lovely stuff.

Delicious and open for business. Very nice nose with violet and dark berry with subtle stem notes which I really enjoyed for the additional freshness they bring. Balanced, fresh and alive on the palate, similar to the nose with additional chalky, granite notes. Very good and very well structured.

Somewhat aromatically muted, but you could just sense some bright strawberries and raspberry. This light bodied wine was lithe across the palate with lifted fresh red fruits with some stem like component, nicely accompanied by some very very fine tannin and bright acid. The wine has balance and I think it will be a really nice drinker in a few more years.

Thanksgiving Week Wines; 11/22/2012-11/25/2012 (Edison, NJ): Another good bottle. Lots of juicy raspberry and cherry fruit with a good earthy component to it. The minerality was really showing in this bottle and it was a nice accompaniment to some Chinese food.

My first bottle of this vintage, first night open: quite light and transparent in the glass, the nose is citrus and tart red fruit and floral. i find it to be mostly about minerality on the palette, a bit heavier than the nose, but not with fruit, but rocks, some red fruit comes through on the finish, really wonderfully subtle...we'll see what it tastes like tomorrow night after being open for a bit.

Opened up to a nose of flowers and ripe, red fruit. Young and tight, red-fruited palate with firm tannins and not much of mineral mark the first half hour. With more air, gentle, elegant garden fruit, notably strawberry, emerging along with chalk and mineral tones. There's a hint of orange peel and cranberry as well which makes my mind wander to Jura. Absolutely beautiful after a couple of hours. Something to buy by the case.

Odd in that the nose shows the fruit I'd expect from a white wine: fuzzy peach, apricot, and orange; the crushed berry notes I'd expect are only lurking in the background, and there's quite a bit of florals as well. Very pretty. In the mouth it's sappy and earthy with suave, chalky tannin, but there's not a whole lot in the way of fruit flavor, and it finishes tart and peachy. An old-school Chauvet style bojo? Still quite delicious, and nothing like the 09 was.

Out of the gates: Great nose of crushed blueberries, rocks, red flowers, and a int of red fruit as well. As ridiculous as this sounds, it almost tastes like you dumped a container of blueberry juice on a rock and then bi the rock. Lots of minerally-stuff going on here which I like...A little lighter than expected on the palate, with less weight and depth than the '09 by a long shot and even a little disappointing in comparison to the '10. Given 20 minutes of air it starts to add some weight, and I think it's really just young here. The mouthfeel is standard Lapierre silk, and this is still and excellent bottle but has stiff competition from prior vintages... (38 views)

Lovely if restrained on the nose at first, this was not giving at all on the palate until I decanted it for about an hour in a narrow-neck carafe. Within about 20 minutes it was smelling better, and by the time we sat down for dinner it was outstanding. Tart cranberries and sweet cherries and floral notes mingled with a core of minerality and chalk, and the smell was mirrored in the mouth, with a slightly waxy mouthfeel that slowly faded away into a long, somewhat tannic finish. The end was rather grippy, while the mid-palate was sappy, making for a really pleasant experience. I was surprised at how open this was considering its youth. Compared to the 2009 (which I drank cases of), I'd say this is less round and more straight, but not in a bad way. The minerality really comes through whereas the 09 was more soft and bouncy.

The aromatics are fruit forward but decidedly balanced, with gorgeous cool ripe strawberry, cherry, and blueberry overlying wet slate, stem, and underbrush. The palate opens with fantastically pure berry fruit that becomes more tart and focused and the wine progresses. Incorporating elements of violets, dried roses, and gravel add complexity throughout. This is strikingly silky in texture with mouthwatering acidity on the finish. Excellent with good cellar potential. R&M 90

Fantastic color, electric purple in the glass. Crushed blackberries on the nose, along with some spices and black tea notes. Tons of acidity on the palate, with a tightly wound core of black and red fruit, gravel, and white pepper. Wonderful stuff.

Clear dark garnet core out to a purple edge and very thin white rim. Clean nose of damp clay, dark cherry, strawberry, nutmeg and an umami/savoury character. This after being in the glass for 20 minutes - when first pop and poured, it was all red fruit and little else. Decant! or at least give it some time in the glass - it's such a baby right now. In the mouth it's savoury with dark fruit and earthy/savoury components - dense but with uplifting acidity, minerality and a lightness on the palate. Medium plus acidity, medium body, tannins and medium plus alcohol (although it's well hidden). Warm on the back palate from the alcohol but it's a good warmth. The finish is medium with the black fruit and savoury elements continuing. This is going to age beautifully. 3-5 years at least but I'd like to see where it is in 10 years.

Where do I start? I was blown away by the 2010 vintage of this wine and it definitely lived up to all the hype out there regarding Lapierre's wines. However, this bottle of the 2011 was really disappointing. There was no fruit. It was all wood and green. Maybe someone can help me out here. Is this typical of this wine in its youth? Could it just need more time? Or is this just an off bottle - an unfortunate side effect of bottling without sulphur? I still have 5 more bottles of this stuff and hope that the others show better than this.
Did not get to spend a lot of time with this bottle, but it was certainly not as immediately accessible as 09 and 10, though I paid ~25% more for it. Quite flat nose with a bit of bubblegum. I only got one sip day 2 when it seemed a bit more giving - even though cold - and on day three had fallen apart. I'll probably grab another at some point and manage an evening with it to better assess. NR

Plump red cherry aromas. That's something new. Really snowy mineral aroma. Palate shows quite angular, but as always liking the pleasurable young bitter tannin edge. Day 3 and this has really gotten much more rounded out on the palate. Fresh red fruit a real guzzler at that.

Transparent ruby red. In the nose, it's darker than the 2010 with aromas of blackberries, but also light overtones of red currant and sour cherries. On the palate, it's quite full and - despite the lower alcohol as compared to the 2010 - stronger than the 2010. The finish, marked by silky tannins and light acidity, is remarkably long and has an incredibly fine minerality.

Pop and poured, in glass 15 minutes. Beautiful, typical aromas; beautiful high tones. This offers almost electrically strung minerality and red fruit, with flint, quartz, and a zinc - manganese dioxide reaction all dosed in delicate northwest wild strawberries. Palate is soft and light in body, showing a nice coating red fruit character, almost like some strawberry poprocks candy dissolved in water. Nice acid dials it up on the finish, with bold sweet tannins, tart, nearly bitter minerality, and those light red fruits. The intensity lingers for over a minute. This is an utter beauty on the nose, but still showing quite young elsewhere. A real lovely, and the best of the last three vintages for me. 90+; the palate keeps this from 91 at present.

Beaujolais Tasting (Whole Foods - Chicago, IL): Nice red fruit, crushed rocks and lavender tones. The palate is taut with lots of energy and crunchy red fruits. This has nice underbrush tones to it with really lovely lilac tones. A bit more accessible than the 2010s were at this point, and not as juicy as the 2009s. A nice combination!

This just arrived at my wine shop and I had to try one after falling in love with the fabulous 09's. (missed out the 10's) Hate to compare, but this has much more cherry and little to no blood orange and iron. That said, incredibly silky and food friendly. Light and lively with perfect balance. Will buy more for immediate gratification. Paired with grilled pork chops.

Solid Morgon; another winner from Lapierre. This has become the house wine for our Paris Vacation. Found enough (@18 euros) around the corner from the apartment to last the whole trip. Beautiful fresh raspberry, pomegranate and strawberry fruit; not as exhuberant as the '09. So far, I like it much better than the 2010 I've opened, which had a bit of a gamey character. This bottle had balance and nice minerality. I'm going to have to find room in my cellar for another case of Lapierre Morgan once 2011 vintage is available in the Pacific Northwest.

Impeccable balance, fresh, crispy strawberries. Better than the 2010. Not as rich as the 2009, a cooler expression. Drank side by side with the 2009, which has lost some of the fresh fruit but which has gained in complexity. Buy the 2011 by the case. My wife loves these. 89-91pts

Apparence rouge cramoisi assez dense.

4/26/2020 - Putnam Weekley Likes this wine:

Medium ruby - unfiltered
Medium aromas of candied cherry with earth/rock and touch of mint
Very Pinotish at this point and quite gorgeous
Rather broad and beautiful palate of red fruit and fresh herbs
Medium plus acidity and medium well integrated tannins
I love my Beaujolais young but this wine reminds me why I always stick some bottles back in the cellar
This has lost its crunch and morphed into a beautifully balanced wine
Not sure any further development lies ahead but could safely age for another 3-5 yrs - this was version with sulfites

Drank 2009, 2010, and 2011 together. 2009 started out the best, but time open brought some stronger barnyard on the nose. 2010, with some fruit still present but some complexity underlying was the best of the three.

Robe rouge rubis trouble;

Silky smooth tannins, tense acidity, and a fairly long and quite pleasing finish.

Palate is solid, dark and waxy red berry, not so identifiable berry, wild berry. Pomegranate? The fleshy sweetness of Luxardo Maraschino cherries, but not the cherry part, perhaps.

This is a totally integrated wine; every aspect in perfect balance with the others. No intrusive heat and just enough alcohol to remind you that this is an adult's pleasure. And the fruit, present but not overwhelming. A wonderful wine!

color - nice glossy magenta , nothing to worry about
nose - started off a bit closed and by the end, this was opening up with nice bright cherry, a little under brush and some licorice. really nice and expressive. by day 3, the fruit had faded on the nose. i would not say this was "earthy" but more along the lines herbs, licorice and perhaps some bark
palate - this started off more along the line of red fruit, bright and alive. as time passed, the wine became darker, more astringent ( in a good way ) with licorice and a slight hint of root beer.
over, this turned out very nicely. i am so happy that i had bought 3 bottles at around 15 euros. if i find more, i will not hesitate to buy another1 or 2. next bottle will be opened in perhaps 3 years and i might save the last one for its 10th birthday. this was my first lapierre and i am a fan.

"S" bottle, popped and pour from magnum. This is perfect slightly chilled for summer dinners and BBQs! So juicy and fresh that you do not even notice the alcohol. This was very clean and fruity without any animal notes. The 2009 has more body and is stinky in comparison but this is much more elegant and refreshing. Fantastic! 90+

3-5 years at least but I'd like to see where it is in 10 years.

licorish ruby red with nose of currants, herbs, berries and spices, bright entry with medium tannins and some tart, some fruit and plum on the body with a light medium finish (Wolffes). Gamay at its highest level.

Muted nose, but definitely beaujolais. Mineral taste. Disappointed

Oh baby. Great juice here, might like this even better than 2010. Gorgeous nose, complex palate and easy on the wallet. Good to see Lapierre not missing a beat.

Slight game notes and floral (lavender) scents. Crushed berries, but not overtly ripe like '09. More minerality here, and some iron/tar notes. Yet it's light on itsfeet. Easy drinking already.

89-91pts
