Within about 20 minutes it was smelling better, and by the time we sat down for dinner it was outstanding. Tart cranberries and sweet cherries and floral notes mingled with a core of minerality and chalk, and the smell was mirrored in the mouth, with a slightly waxy mouthfeel that slowly faded away into a long, somewhat tannic finish. The end was rather grippy, while the mid-palate was sappy, making for a really pleasant experience. I was surprised at how open this was considering its youth. Compared to the 2009 (which I drank cases of), I'd say this is less round and more straight, but not in a bad way. The minerality really comes through whereas the 09 was more soft and bouncy.
