Friday, April 5, 2013 - The 'S'-version. Strong dark garnet color, very transparent. The nose is the epitome of bright and pure Gamay fruit and granite soil influence: beautiful perfectly ripe cherry, raspberry and violets along with some minor salty, meaty and iron notes. On the palate juicy and moreish as hell. Light bodied and quite dry with a perfect balance between ripe fruit and high acidity. More fruit forward - though savoury - than the nose, this is mostly pure cherry and raspberry fun. The finish however is very minerally, stony even, and superbly palate-cleansing. Extremely refreshing and delicious stuff, I now understand why the magnum is so widely offered. I had read some less than praising comments about this vintage but I think this is top notch stuff. Beautifully crafted from obviously great raw materials, what's not to like?
