Saturday, December 10, 2016 - A big, serious Cabernet-lover's Merlot, this Delectus is drinking beautifully right now. Ruby, medium (+) intensity, with very little sign of ageing. The palate is dry, but bursting with ripe red and black cherry. The acidity, tannins and minerality are medium. The alcohol is medium (+) to high but somehow is not really that noticeable, which is a testament to the wine-making skills and balance of this wine. The palate is consistent with the nose, with ripe fruit, milk chocolate and a smooth and luscious mouthfeel. It is drinking well now through at least 2018. Very good, although not a particularly good value in the high 60s and 70s.
