Friday, July 24, 2020 - Disappointing showing on this bottle. Into the decanter the smell filled the room—cherry and flower perfume. Checked in at 30 min but a bit muted. At 90 min started to open up, but instead of an expressive cab that I love, this was a bit muted. All the notes were there, red cherry, black cherry, bitter chocolate, cherry blow pop touch of blackberry and blackberry liquer—but on a significantly reduced scale. Opened on a flower day so can’t blame the lunar calendar. Needs more cellar time or a longer decant. Maybe a dumb phase. The 2010s have been hit and miss lately. Really thought 3 years would have meant no need for a 3 hr decant as was the case for my last bottle. Drank with others so this didn’t make it that long.
