Friday, October 10, 2014 - Drank it over two days. I did notice the funk upon first opening. But left the bottle open for a couple of hours and it aired off. The nose is a bit overwhelming with alcohol. There are some dark, mature fruits as well. Some wet fur. On the palate, tannins are quite evident, along with some sweetness, maybe coming from the alcohol or the fruit. It is very ripe. This is certainly expressing the heat of the vintage both on the nose and on the palate. Is that good? I don't know. I think the goal is to express provenance and vintage but is it still the goal when the outcome lacks balance and harmony? Should there be more wine maker intervention? My Bordeaux mind is telling me yes but my Burgundy heart is resisting. I wish you better luck with your bottles.
