Tuesday, April 12, 2022 - Popped and poured, cork crumbled halfway so I was a bit scared of the quality that awaited. Needs 30 minutes of decanting definitely. Fully developed Ornellaia, as you can see both on the color and nose. Deep brick in the glass. Aromas of dried cranberries, dried cherries, twigs, cigar box and dry forest soil. Palate is smooth, with the tannins fully resolved and the acidity on the moderate side. Still very well balanced and has a long finish, but luckily I caught this before its downhill journey. Needless to say this will not improve at all, but it was fascinating to see Ornellaia's style just before Michel Rolland came onboard. Piece of history right here.
