92 Points

Thursday, September 19, 2013 - Pop/pour day of delivery. Aromas of red fruit with a green freshness. A savory component as well, but not the sauvage of counterparts from France. Lighter on its feet. On the palate, medium bodied and well balanced with acidity. Not much in the way of tannins. Winery notes suggest drinking 2014-2016, or subsequently starting in 2020. I don't have enough experience with this wine to speak of its "dumb phase", but tonight it was a terrific pairing with turbo-charged flank steaks. For me, this is a very approachable Rhone blend this early in its life, and a wine that perhaps has a broader appeal for non wine geeks (given lack of big meat / game / rusticity) than some if its French counterparts. Could use a bit more depth, but I suspect that will flush out with age. 92 points for now with the right pairing, and I think more upside with the right amount of bottle age.
