Saturday, March 14, 2009 - Acquired by me at auction several years ago and had been resting in cellar conditions since. Fill was base neck. Upon opening, the cork was mushy and seemed too delicate for an ah-so. I used a winekey and broke the cork in half. I was worried to say the least. However, once I got it open, it smelled right and my fears were assuaged. SOMd for about 1.5 hours and poured. Dead give away as aged Bordeaux. Had that regal nose of truffled, earthy red fruit that I immediately associate with Pavie, but carried classic notes of lead pencil that I associate with Pauillac. The wine was fully integrated, showing very nice (but not exquisite) mouthfeel and a somewhat muted finish. I think with the cork being how it was, that this wine is capable of a bit more on the pallate but alas, you don't always get a pristine bottle. It was my favorite of the night, as I prefer this style over a more boisterous (but polished) red.
