95 Points

Sunday, November 12, 2023 - Ruby with orange hue in thin layers. From the start (no decant, no airing, just pnp) a fruit dominated nose of (in order of appearance) cherries then within some minutes adding cola, herbs, strawberries, tree bark. On the palate quite fullbodied and intense and hiding the high alcohol levels. Smooth with most tannins shed. After more than 90 minutes of airing from the opened and partly emptied bottle, the tannins become more noticeable again. Excellent to outstanding length. On peak, but should be consumed within one to two hours after opening from my warmer than textbook cellar. For sure even if perfectly cellared since release, this doesn't benefit from a decant or extended airing. (Clos des Papes never does in the last more than thirty years I tasted it, at least if its more than 10 years cellared since release) 5/14/18/8. 93 points from Joe Czerwinski and 96 from Jeb Dunnuck both for the WA and this time I more agree with Jeb. -2030 if perfectly stored since release, otherwise drnk it up, as Jeff Leve adviced.
