Sunday, January 26, 2014 - The charming perfume makes it difficult to actually taste the wine; I did not want to quit taking it in. Port like sweetness, candied orange peel, baking spices, and ripe dark berries jump from the glass. The palate delivers an excellent mouthfeel. The bouquet's elements are present on the palate, backed by serious tannic structure. There is also an interesting terroir element that enhances the overall experience. This elegant and stalwart wine could make you want to give Australia a second look. This is nothing like the jammy juice that fills so many other $50 Shiraz bottles. Then again, maybe it's Jim Barry's style. I've never had anything made under the Jim Barry label that was jammy, flat, and confected, including the relatively humble 'Cover Drive'.
