Lovely wine. Starts with rich fruits and some subtle earthiness, then a distinct spicy mid palate before the longish finish which bursts with sweet blackcurrant flavours. Full, but still elegant.

91-92pts. Very solid shiraz with all of the characteristics you hope for. Pretty heavy stuff, very dark in the glass. Good amount of sweet fruits, strawberry, blackberry, blueberry. Rich mid palate, finish was nice but a bit felt heavy on the alcohol. OVerall very enjoyable with some Kangaroo meat.

The charming perfume makes it difficult to actually taste the wine; I did not want to quit taking it in. Port like sweetness, candied orange peel, baking spices, and ripe dark berries jump from the glass. The palate delivers an excellent mouthfeel. The bouquet's elements are present on the palate, backed by serious tannic structure. There is also an interesting terroir element that enhances the overall experience. This elegant and stalwart wine could make you want to give Australia a second look. This is nothing like the jammy juice that fills so many other $50 Shiraz bottles. Then again, maybe it's Jim Barry's style. I've never had anything made under the Jim Barry label that was jammy, flat, and confected, including the relatively humble 'Cover Drive'.

This is the first vineyard Jim Barry bought in the 60s. And now someone just made a sheep joke "Mr. McRae and his wife". Check out label.
This all used to go into fortifieds and stickies and then the Jim said to McRae. Hey, this is good enough fruit to go with, lets make wine." And here it is.
And juicy, fleshy, dark and smokey, and all there. Hmm... Australia. Something to watch.
