Saturday, June 15, 2019 - Richard Leroy makes one of the best Chenin Blanc I have ever tasted, complex and generous that can compete with White Burgundies. Les Noels de Montbenault comes from a 2 ha vineyard in Coteaux du Layon Faye-d’Anjou, old vines and low yields. This 2011 Richard Leroy Chenin Blanc reminds me of d’Auvenay Aligote, intense scent of buttery popcorn, guernsey butter, overripe lemon, orchard fruits, burnt toast and brioche. Much more natural than d’Auvenay style without filtering or fining. Nowadays a sought-after natural wine. (92/100)
