Thursday, July 20, 2006 - Deep true ruby color with just a bit of bricking at the rim. Really pretty elegant nose of crushed olives, violets, lavender, cassis, baked plums, leather and powdered granite. Textbook N. Rhone syrah. Medium bodied, sliky and elegant with coffee, black fruits, aged meat and mineral flavors. Tannins are all silk. The acids are fresh and juicy and the finish is long and complicated. Like roasted figs wrapped in bacon with cracked pepper. This was really special and a complete surprise as I expected it to be good but not this good. Lucky to have three more to work through...but no need to hurry.
