Monday, February 8, 2021 - Terroir-istes International - Italy, Northern Whites (Overgaauw Wine Estate): (Tasted Blind): A light canary yellow colour that exudes oak spices, blackcurrant leaf and a hint of orange reminiscent of Semillon. Toasty notes are prevalent, with the oak influence being more prominent than the fruit.
The palate starts better with some beeswax, grapefruit and lemony notes, whilst a mineral and pithiness give texture to the mid-palate. It feels quite like a Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend adorned with toasty oak, crushed nuts, and some melted butter, all detracting somewhat from the fruit expression. It has a reasonable length, good linearity and excellent intensity, but it is a left-of-centre chardonnay that I was on the fence about.
