90 Points

Wednesday, March 7, 2018 - 2008 Piedmont at Osteria Langhe (Chicago, IL): Of the "modernist" Barolos tonight, this was my favourite. There's a beautiful mix of red and black fruit on the nose and palate, and even though there's a ripe and somewhat extracted character to this, it's rounded out by a silky texture and a glossy lightness. The tannins here are fine and silky, but this is certainly far from being fully ready to drink.

3/8/2018 11:00:00 AM - Good review, and based on it I will hold my bottles. For what it's worth, Massolino says that this barolo is "traditional ... par excellence," not modernist. See the "style sheet" here: http://www.massolino.it/en/vini/vigna-rionda/

    Thanks for the note.
