Likes this wine:

Thursday, May 6, 2021 - Drank over three nights. Rich, full, redolent with yellow stone fruit, some apple, light floral notes. That said, the acid balance and minerality are nearly MIA, thus leading to a more intense single dimension sweet palate. True it's long, but finishes a bit heavy. Did not shift a lot on successive tastings. Reading other notes it's unclear if this is a phase or just bottle variation. Prior bottle was seven years ago, nearly a lifetime it would seem, and was more compelling. One more of a three pack left, so will wait a couple of years to see what happens. Have the 2016 but not tried yet, may soon.

5/6/2021 5:28:00 PM - A few years back I found that a number of the 2012's I loved (Lauer Stirn, Selbach-Oster Ur Alte) really shut down and felt dumb and heavy. Given how they were in their youth, I'm better they are shut down and will open up with some more years. Fingers crossed!

1/25/2022 5:29:00 PM - I just had a bottle of this and I can see where you are coming from - and my experience had a lot in common with yours. This is quite sweet with the peaches, apples and honey upfront, but I did feel like there was a nice herbal and mineral streak below the surface. Also, the acid isn't showing on the palate or the finish, but the palate isn't heavy - so I think there is a good amount there balancing behind the scenes.

As I mentioned previously, a lot of the 2012's went though a really dumb period, and this could be the wine emerging from that. We will see.
