Sunday, November 21, 2021 - 275 Cases: Opened and poured first glasses, approached after about an hour in the glass and decided against any further decant. Wine is still dense plum coloring in the middle with burnt ruby edges in the glass. Forthcoming nose of strawberry and tart raspberry with further dark ripe blueberry and blackberry jam. Secondary tobacco, vanilla, cigar drying barn and a touch of wood/cedar join the aromas as well. Fruit continues on to the palate, but starts to take a back seat to more of the cigar/tobacco with touches of toasted oak, sweet vanilla and chocolate. The fruit flavors are more mature on the palate than the nose would suggest. Texture is towards full bodied, but has a certain milkiness to have you chew on. Tannins are still ready for years ahead, but influences are nicely integrated at this point. By the end of the night the finish was getting pretty earthy with very dark chocolate taking more focus in the mixed berry jam. Wine Making Note: 25 months in 40% French, 30% Hungarian and 30% American Oak.
