Saturday, July 21, 2012 - Châteauneuf-du-Pape Dinner: This smells beautiful. Very pretty, soft floral aromas. Some earth, but it's dusty. Leather, but no funk at all. Beautiful. The palate is nice, pretty and soft, with mild grittiness. Some older funk here, with plenty of acid remaining, with nice dancing cherry fruit. Really pretty finish, which is soft and lightly earthy. Really lovely stuff, with acidity lingering long with light cherry fruit. Even lingers a minute after swallowing. A beautiful old Châteauneuf, and a page from the history books when compared to the extractive modern stuff...
