90 Points

Friday, August 15, 2014 - A good bottle of wine to open and start enjoying this evening. The overall impression with two glasses is this is in a fine drinking window, but should stay enjoyable for another decade. The bottle fill was lower neck with no signs of leaking cork.

Aroma - On the nose this has penetrating scents of cedar that are primary. There is a secondary note of plum and cassis.

Palate - Similar to the aromas, there is a strong presence of cedar, tobacco, and cassis that are very fresh and balanced. There is no trace of heat, and in the mid palate the tannins turn very dry with a bit of minerality peeking through. The acidity on this is balanced on the entry, and then is overtaken mid-palate with the dryness of the tannins. There is a very dry finish on this, and I would have scored this higher but my mouth felt like the desert after a glass with the tannins.

Overall, this is a fine claret in a good drinking window. A good performer that was held back by the tannic dryness. Don't let that stop you from enjoying this wine however.

Day 2 - Consumed the remaining two glasses from the 750 opened the evening before. The wine did not hold up well overnight. Score 84 on day 2.
