Thursday, June 27, 2019 - A few favourites with coq au vin (Chicago, IL): Yep, clearly Yquem. Initially there's a bit of a high-toned thing on the nose that's a little distracting, but air clears it out. I wish I had the chance to decant this more, as I think these wines benefit from lots of air. Nonetheless, this was a fantastic bottle of Yquem -- relatively low botrytis and less dense than some of the other vintages (I've always thought 1975 to be a more elegant, higher acid year). The usual complexity is in full display too. Will this become the 1967 with another decade? I doubt it as it doesn't have that same raw concentration, but what it lacks in botrytis and extract it makes up for in acidity and elegance.
