The bottle was perfect in every way, label, cork (although soaked), capsule, and base neck fill. Golden. On the nose it would be easy to assume this wine was going to be too much to handle with heaps of glycerin and heavily botrytised fruits overpowering the palate, but the nose was deceiving. On the palate the perfect level of acidity brought this wine into perfect balance and harmony. The wine was completely refined and elegant with far less glycerin and sweetness of so many other stickies, including other vintages of Yquem. The rolling layers of flavors go so far beyond the traditional apricot marmalade and honey and includes spiced applesauce, tangerine marmalade, lemon rind, vanilla creme brulee and more that I just seem to get lost in as the velvety wine fills your entire palate and stays with you for at least 45 seconds afterwards. Is it a perfect wine, probably, but I'm giving it an extremely rare 99. I'll consider revisiting it for its 60th Bday.

Mango, tropical fruit, coconut, white pepper, apricot, quite floral. Touch less concentrated but more acidity than the 1967 on the side, very balanced and large. 95

Good vintages of Yquem (Chicago, IL): Alternate whiffs of this wine yielded TCA. Slightly musty and dirty, and honestly pretty disappointing given what I expected this bottle held in store. On the other hand, whatever the funk was didn't really get worse either, but it was bad enough I didn't really care for the bottle.

The cork seemed compromised but the wine was fine. Dark gold/honey colored, sweet, sharp with great depth and medium finish. Buttery, nose of ginger and ripe pears.

Deep gold in color, the attention seeking nose pops with roasted pineapple, ginger, butter, butterscotch, white pepper, flowers, cashews, caramel, vanilla, apricots, honey and cinnamon sugar. Intense, concentrated, weighty and yet fresh, vibrant and spicy, the mid-palate and finish resonates with seared pineapple, white pepper, orange, mango and a beguiling hint of cocoa powder that shines in the end of the finish. Drink from 2023-2075.

Twas brillig and the slivey toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe; all mimsey were the bovergills and the momeraths outgrabe.
Clutching my vorpal corkscrew I approached the sleeping beast. One two and through and through! I detached the cork and poured a schlumock.
What a lark this '75 is, as in uffish thought I stood!
Decanted and left to slam for about 3 hours, I drank this from an ISO shape.
The colour is burnished copper. Surely, we are speaking old wine but not over the hill wine (no brown or khaki notes).
The nose is a riot of Saturnalian proportions, all apricots, peach, a touch of lemon twist, creme brulee. More complex wine of this style can easily be found, especially if made from Riesling, but this is like listening to a perfectly tuned motor. There might be faster from 0-100, or better into corners but it is the ride with this beast.
The palate is as per the nose but there is a marmalade aspect that adds to my pleasure and the intensity and length are a thing to behold. You will keep coming back to this. Truly wonderful wine.
Thanksgiving 2022 (Los Gatos, California): Deep golden with hint of amber. Exquisite high toned perfume along with crême brulée and apricot notes. Not huge in the mouth but seamless with a pure beam of fruit, fantastic acidity, and great length. One could go on and on about a wine like this, but suffice it to say that it was a great privilege and treat to drink.

There was nothing this electric sweet powerhouse didn’t do for me. It had body, but was by no means syrupy. Where the sugars were heavy, the bright acids lifted them up. It had orange marmalade, lemongrass, honeysuckle, ginger, lemon zest, and dried appricot. This d’Yquem, elegant as it was, had power. It had texture. Vibrancy. Oomph. Dear god! And so many layers!!!! I’m going to find more, because this wine will be perfect in another few decades.

This was an extraordinarily good bottle of 75 Yquem to end an extraordinary dinner. It had a beautiful copper-toned hue, fabulous grip and gusto, probably my favourite vintage of Yquem in the last 50 years

Orange color, butterscotch, tangerine, apricot, sherry candy. Wine had lost some of the sweetness but the finesse was still there. Extremely long finish. The taste still lingered in my palate hours afterwards.

Still a beautiful wine, if fading around the edges. Strongly honey sweet, viscous, and wonderful staying power on the tongue. The wine looks yellow gold colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like fig, raisin, mango, mineral, vanilla, botrytised, butterscotch and honey. The body is medium/full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

Fill to base of neck, cork was soft and split just below corkscrew reach then the damndest thing happened, the bottle sucked the rest of the cork back down into the bottle. Fortunately there was no cork taint. Nose was slight caramel notes. Palate was thick, viscous and carried on the caramel notes with mid level sweetness. Paired with Souflee, blue cheese and pear salad and finished with a strawberry baked cheese cake. The wine went with all of them although the salad matched best.

This is the best sweet wine I’ve ever tasted. Dark and carmalized, so rich and deep but nicely balanced with great acidity. I’m not usually a fan of dessert wines but this was a killer.

Taking on a copper, orange hue, the incredible perfume with all its flowers, almonds, creme brulee, candied orange rind, apricot, overripe pineapple molasses and spice all coated with honey is a serious turn on. But it is on the palate, with its incredible match of concentration, sweetness, and blazing acidity that helps it all make sense. This is so good, it could run out of points on the best bottles, especially with more time.

Charleston VI; 11/3/2021-11/7/2021 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): WOTN for me hands down. At the end of a very long day of wine drinking this jumped out and as I'm thinking back the next day on a dinner where I took almost no notes this is the wine that stands out and I still remember. It's classic D'Yquem. Finish goes on forever. Great age on the bottle. Just special.

A solid bottle of it that Jeff thought was in perfect shape. I appreciated the botrytis-heavy orange flavors, sound acidity and thick-as-motor-oil texture. For me, just missing a bit of freshness the best bottles have. Clearly impressive, though.

A rare dud for Yquem. Good fill but too dark for age. Nice sweetness and concentration but much too simple and fruit-challenged. Perhaps there was a provenance problem before I purchased it but other bottles from the same lot have been much better. This should be superb even from a half bottle.
SLDS Single Bottle Dinner: Caramel, honey, quince, apricot and toast. Palate is complex, with the sweetness still shining brightly through. Wonderful balance and composure. This bottle was right up there with the best bottles of 75 d'Yquem that I've been lucky to try. Really amazing stuff.

BYO - Erik: Everything just screams classic Sauternes and Yquem. There is amazing balance throughout the flavors and aftertaste. There is an ample amount of botrytis balanced with a piercing acidity. Lovely sweet apricots mingled with vanilla and lots of other spices. What a legendary wine to taste and an amazing treat! With such a wine, it is very difficult to not be picky. I felt that there might be better bottles available but this was certainly a bottle above average and it really showed its pedigree!

1986 vertical Bordeaux Grand cru Classé etc (19 wines) - Wine tasting dinner semi blind (Nordsjaelland): The surprise of the evening. I really love Sauternes but usually I don't appreciate older Sauternes as I find them too deliberate oxidised. One example is 1990, which I have tasted several times and find too tertiary in the wrong way. My all time favourite is 2001, which I know many find too young. Not for me - it's perfect. However this bottle from 1975 was outstanding, not as good as 2001 - which might be an impossible target - but nevertheless outstanding with well balanced tertiary notes. 95+

The Last Chance Saloon: Such a lovely amber colour. Still plenty of freshness, and has avoided that descent into lime-and-marmalade that affects lots of mature Sauternes. Barley sugar and blossom, soft and elegant - and really no effort to drink....

Slightly cloudy golden brown in color. Based on color I was worried about whether wine was going to be okay. However once open, wine was great. Notes of burnt caramel, apricot, and orange blossom. Med acidity, med body. It is amazing that something that was 44 years old could still be so amazing.

PR 1969 Extravaganza: Lemon, orange, apricot, coconut and smoke. Palate is tangy, with superb acidity that cleanses through and compliments the amazingly pure fruit. Brilliant flavour and depth here, this is extra-incredible wine among a line up of incredible wines.

A few favourites with coq au vin (Chicago, IL): Yep, clearly Yquem. Initially there's a bit of a high-toned thing on the nose that's a little distracting, but air clears it out. I wish I had the chance to decant this more, as I think these wines benefit from lots of air. Nonetheless, this was a fantastic bottle of Yquem -- relatively low botrytis and less dense than some of the other vintages (I've always thought 1975 to be a more elegant, higher acid year). The usual complexity is in full display too. Will this become the 1967 with another decade? I doubt it as it doesn't have that same raw concentration, but what it lacks in botrytis and extract it makes up for in acidity and elegance.

Tasted blind, this wine had a light orange/deep gold center with yellow/clear rims. The high- intensity nose blasted burnt orange, lemon, minerals, and apples.
In the mouth, this wine was the essence of desert wine class. It was rich and ripe but well balanced. It had tons of complexity and great length.
While at its peak, this wine will easily last for 20+ years. Enjoy at your leisure!

HDH auction at Spiaggia; 4/12/2019-4/13/2019 (Chicago, IL): Somehow, I had gotten into my head that I had had a bottle of this before, but nope, that was wrong. This was a sample from a bottle opened the last night. It's a rich and powerful wine, but a bit of the oxidation shows. There's a lot of complexity, with secondary characteristics at most. Amazing racy acidity; I'm going to have to open one of my own soon.

Just a stunning vintage of Yquem and set to take over from the ‘67 as the best “younger” vintage of Yquem to drink now. Incredible spice-driven intensity and mouth-watering acidity and cut. Lazor-like and very mineral-driven with fabulous complexity on the finish with notes of hazelnuts and brown spices. Still structured and firm and while its a real treat to drink now, its going to get a lot better over the next 20 years. 96+

Marc's 70th Birthday Dinner in DC (Oval Room in DC): Outstanding Yquem, if a bit young-seeming. This was great, but seemed in an awkward stage between full maturity and youth. It had the great white peach, marmalade flavors of youth, but was starting to get the nuttiness and caramel of an old sauternes. Just fantastic complexity and balance. This wine will outlive all of us and will certainly be around for its 100th birthday, if not 150.

This wine was pnp by my host and tasted blind. It had a light tan/deep yellow center and clear rims. The high intensity nose offered up pear, brown sugar, magnolia flowers, orange, and white stone. It was a 98 point nose.
In the mouth, this wine was delicious but lacked acidity. There was almost no acidity for the first hour! Afterward, the acidity started to build. It became fine grained and quite attractive but then we ran out of time.
I believe this wine would have merited a higher score if it had been given a couple of hours of air before we started drinking it. However, it was still great!

It has been a few years since I last tasted this wine, and baby, "I've missed you!" With blazing, racy acidity, the wine roars with its waves of ripe, sweet, juicy, fresh, pure, honeyed apricot, orange peel, pineapple, creme brulee, spice, flowers and vanilla. The wine is rich and sweet, but never cloying or out of balance. It has length, purity and complexity and its only reached its teen years. I am sure future generations of wine lovers will be loving this wine in 2075!

Giacosa weekend - dinner at Masseria (Masseria, DC): Bright amber color. Perfectly integrated harmonious nose displaying apricot tart, peach, red currant, crème brulee, strong saffron, ginger candy, botrytis and coppery mineral. Incredibly precise and detailed especially for such a concentrated sweet wine, layers upon layers of slightly dry yellow fruit, bright acidity and strong mineral and a seamless long dry apricot and red currant driven finish with medicine/saffron at the end. Once again, displaying impeccable purity and balance. The 01 may develop similar as it also possesses the intense yet pure fruit and bright acidity. Excellent showing.

1961 Bordeaux: Dead or Alive? (Plantation, Florida): Ho hum, another great Yquem. This bottle displayed a gorgeous blend of the full on, massive style (eg., ‘59, ‘71) and the more nuanced middle weight style (eg., ‘67, ‘01). Of course it’s rich and luscious with all the expected tangerine, cinnamon, vanilla and crème brûlée you’d expect. But somehow it remains poised and elegant. Fabulous - again.

The nose reminded me of 1967, but not as multifacetted. The colour is a bit lighter than the 1967. This is a wonderful Yquem, which is still fresh and full of vigour. It still oozes of primary botrytis and glue with some tertiary aromas underneath of chantarelles, shoe polish and grilled corncobs. Full bodied (heavier than the 1967) and great length. Bravo!
How can you tell a perfect bottle? Emotions, company, food, other bottles you had of the same vintage or others? trying to rate this elixir is futile at this point. Unquestionably the finest bottle of the 1975 I have ever tried, as this really kept opening up over several hours of meditation like sipping. Sure you can argue that it's not as complex as the 2001 but 26 years of age difference bring about patina of flavors and it's own magic. A true treat.

Charleston Food & Wine Festival; 3/1/2018-3/3/2018 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): I think quite honestly I had this too hyped up in my mind. I always love D'Yquem, and then to get a bottle of one of the best vintages with some age is just such a treat. And it was incredibly enjoyable and very bright and expressive. There's that combination of lightness and flavor that goes on forever that you wonder how they make work. So one of the best dessert wines I've ever had. Not, however, wildly better than other D'Yquems from 'less good' vintages and so not sure about the mark-up on this. I'd say the '89 and '01 were 'wow's' for me. This reminded me more of the '98 level. Very very very good. But I can get that vintage for half of the price.

What a stunning wine. Far and away the best d'Yquem I have ever had. Right from the first whiff this commands attention, and does not let go.
Nose: Fresh apricot, peach, creme brulee, and orange peel with hints of spice. Palate: Super long and still quite young this dances in the mouth with a spherical presence. Coating every millimeter, but remaining light. Finish: Exceptional length and resonance.

The Boston Palmerathon: What a stunning wine. So few things grab the attention like d'Yquem and this justifiably has a formidable reputation. OCTOBER REVOLUTION CENTENARY TASTING. 375. low fill and quite dark. Though a bit oxidized, nose is still lovely: extremely rich, caramelized citrus, exotic spices, and honey blend with faded flower touches. Taste is even better, suggesting a medley of perfectly spiced extremely ripe baked fruits, but more refined and subtle. Enormously long, lingering finish of great intensity. Even from a past prime half like this, clearly the best Yquem of the second half of the last century.

Only Yquem has a nose like this: orange zest, cinnamon, mango, pear, caramelized pineapple, fennel seed. The taste had all that plus honeycomb and a little fiery spice, like a hint of cayenne. Intense like most Yquems but also profound, with subtle taste shadings all the way to the back. Magical.

Big 50 lunch (Mi Casa): Finally starting to show maturity. Perfectly harmonious unbelievably complex nose displaying apricot, dry apricot, red currant, candied orange peel, a hint of medicine, crème bruless, candied ginger, botrytis, spicy spices and coppery mineral. Perfectly harmonious and balanced palate, classic airy cotton candy like D’Yquem texture, so finely layered, spicy/botrytis mouthfeel, bright acidity, coppery mineral and a seamless long apricot, red currant and ginger driven finish. Incredibly airy texture, intensity, purity, balance and harmony make this perfect! IMO, two of the greatest D’yquems made since 1950 are the 75 and 01.
Completely different from the last bottle even though it’s from the same source and lot. Simply magnificent. Glorious concoction of botrytis, apricot, orange, clove, tangerine, mango, honey and more. A viscous heavyweight but similar to the ‘67, the balance is exquisite so it’s not at all tiring. Clearly at its peak but no rush to drink up, even in half bottles. This is why Yquem is the king of Sauternes - and why you need to wait decades to find out.
(from 375ml) Bitter orange, caramel and peach. Stunning intensity and depth yet not heavy or brooding. Precision / perfection. A great bottle that should live forever. (98)

Tasted blind, this wine had a gold center and tan/clear rims. The high- intensity nose displayed sauteed oranges, vanilla wafers, apples, lemons, and honey.
In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe with a gorgeous mouthfeel. It had strong acidity to buffer the rich fruit. Not surprisingly, it had stunning length.
This was one of the richest vintages of Yquem I have had. It tasted like a supercharged Rieussec from a great vintage. I loved this wine. While I doubt it will get any better, it will certainly last at this level for decades.

This seems to be very good rather than great Yquem. Excellent orange gold color out of this half bottle. Rather gentle bouquet of oranges and spice. Medium weight in Yquem terms, very good acidity. Not especially marked by botrytis. Refreshing Sauternes but I would not pick it out blind as mature Yquem from a splendid vintage.

The color was very dark on this and the cork wet and fragile so it may not have been completely representative of a pristine bottle, yet it was delicious and mesmerizing. Would like to taste it next to a perfectly kept bottle to see if there was a difference. Still, this was sauternes at it's finest and a complete treat to drink.

Drank as part of 40th birthday party. This wine was everything I hoped it would be in a Yquem. I was surprised by how much honey and pear you still get. There were also hints of brown sugar that showed its age. This wine absolutely evolved over the night. I firmly believe I could drink this in another 25 years and love it just as much. I really wish I had another bottle to try on my 50th.
SS's 40th at Les Amis. Final wine of a really splendid evening. Orange in appearance, and while this was mature, there just still seemed to be the spark and glow in the wine. Very viscous. Really intense concentration on the nose, with the richness of apricots, honey, kerosene, lychee syrup, peach and marmalade. The palate was even more brilliant than the nose with density, concentration, richness, power and length. Sweetened pineapples, Indian mango, apricot, Japanese musk melon, burnt brown sugar, manuka honey, the list just goes on. The sheer complexity and balance of this wine was outstanding, and what a fitting finale, with the quite amazing dessert of candied whole mikan, with earl grey jelly, panna cotta and sorbet. Pure decadence!

LostVerse brought this to Allreds 40th birthday dinner. What a treat. Just behind the 1975 Latour for my wine of the night (although most others liked this wine the best). Amber color (darker than the 1975 Fargures which we drank next to it). Tropical aromas which immediately caught your attention. Notes of apricots, mango and orange zest. Good spiciness from the botrytis. Long finish. Far superior to the 1977 which I had earlier this year (although the storage on the 1977 was poor). 95-96 points.

My 40th Birthday Dinner (Anvil Club, East Dundee): From 375ml, tasted alongside the 1975 de Fargues, courtesy of Mr. & Mrs. thelostverse. Deep golden color, very similar to the Fargues. Aromas of ripe white peach, apricots, orange blossom honey, pineapple and pear nectar with an underlying spice note. Amazingly rich and layered, but with terrific acidity this never feels heavy or cloying. Orange, pear, apricot syrup, grilled pineapple, marshmallow, fig and peach blossom flavors. Hints of spice again on the finish which lingers for over two minutes. Sublime. Thank you M/M TLV, I am truly humbled by your generosity.

An Amazing Birthday Meal (San Francisco): Deep golden. Really great, high toned scents of volatility and ripe, tropical fruits. Medium weight. Sweeter and more vanilla bean than the '89 Foreau with very sound acidity but no botrytis. Seems at a plateau that could span another decade from here. I much preferred this to the 2001 tasted tonight for its intensity balanced with elegance.

Creme brulee, dried apricots, honey, figs, dates, vanilla, cream, spices, orange zest, lime cest, ripe mango, Hawaiin pineapple (because for me the best), the fresh young acidity makes this wine a milestone, would like to drink it again in 10 years, perfect bottle, not decanted, but it could be for 2 or 3 hours, gets better and better with time

Just got to spend a second with this, and this is definitely one of the wines that I wish I could have sat with for a while (along with the 90 Rousseau and the 91 Monte Bello.) The nose was mature and powerful - creme brulee, honey, baking spices, florals - honeysuckle, paraffin, minerals. On the palate this is huge and rich, yet so focused and driven - brulee, spices and honeysuckle. Just staggering. 18/20.

Malcolm's Ledbury lunch (The Ledbury, London): Dark gold, but fresh and perfectly balanced and we all immediately identified this as Yquem and no surprise that it was 75. Everything just right with this.

Amber-orange color, burnt brown sugar nose. This was lovely wine, touch soft but sported delicious sucrosity, tart orange and brulee notes. One nit - it is a bit simple. (per se)

WOTN. Beautiful example of this wine. Astonishingly powerful, but still velvety smooth. Lots of life ahead. Served with simple pastry puffs with vanilla and almond to let the wine shine.

Phat Boy Dinner @ The Ledbury-came at the end of a series of good bottles, but woke up everyone's palate. It was fresh, clean, weighty on the mouth. It has a orangey nose with some spice to it. It coats your mouth in a luscious and luxurious way and has a long fresh finish. This wine just gets better and better

Never got what the big deal is about d'Yquem. I don't have my notes but I do recall at the time I tried this that it had scored 100 in the wine spectator and other ratings. IMO this is what a dessert wine should be like https://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=814515&searchId=DE8393CD%23selected%253DW814515_13_K0dadc627c634c8121f4ba25021470bdb For the Y'quem had it at tasting and really couldn't get much complexity out of it. We didn't finish the bottle ( it was one of many others of the evening) so took it home and had it the next day with a sugarless rasberry tart (very tart) and the combination was awesome, but a long way from an epic 100 point wine
Complex and lifted nose of apricot, bath salts, vanilla, pineapple, toffee and quince. Beautifully balanced, nearly perfect in fact, there is the typical richness but it has staggering drive from the totally integrated acidity. Supremely classy wine.

Clear light copper in color. Nose of apricots, saffron and malt. In the finish it showed an enormous length and complexity. Bitter almonds, orange peel, acacia honey and hints of molasses. All very elegant and balanced. What a beauty!

I cannot think of many wines that have displayed this level of consistency. This stunning wine has been perfect on more occasions than I can count. After a night of great wines, time and time again this has been scored as the wine of the night on numerous occasions. With its flashy display of decadent tropical fruits slathered in honey, vanilla, flowers, spice and candied citrus peel, it’s easy to see why. On the palate, the more than :60 finish has the perfect balance of acidity, giving it lift and freshness coupled with dense, ripe, over ripe and extremely ripe tropical fruits. This is the wine to buy, if you can afford it.

Rarities at 11 Madison (11 Madison Park): A classic Yquem for current drinking, it has a darkish color and a fabulous nose of sweet brown sugar and limestone minerals. Very sweet and decadent fruit with tons of botrytus but with a classic structure underneath. Big and full with great breadth on the palate and the finish is endless with great notes of brown spices and minerals. Classic Yquem that should last for another century! 96+

Fathers day does not come around enough. As Chateau d'Yquem is my dad's favorite wine, I popped a 1975! With a beautiful golden hue, pineapple upside down cake, caramel, honeysuckle, cinnamon, coffee, orange rind, apricot, smoke, creme brulee and smoke create the complex aromatics. Liquid silk and velvet drenched in honey textures in the mouth lead to a long, fresh, bright, pineapple, apricot, vanilla, cocoa, orangesicle and spice filled finish. While this was a great bottle of 1975 d'Yquem, I've had fresher examples showing more yellow fruit, sweetness and less creme brulee.

Epic Wine Dinner at Bourbon Steak (Washington DC): A superb, mature Sauternes. It opens with sweet petrol (which dissipates), followed by white flowers, canned pineapple, tart mangos, orange rind, coconut, and crème brûlée. The palate is exceptionally lush, dense, and sweet -- and the finish goes on and on -- but it somehow seems weightless. An awesome finisher to the evening.

High shoulder fill. Still young in color for it's age, this showed very well, but I would not put it with the best of them. Wonderful, and wine of the night for many, but just a touch short of thrilling for me - likely a better fill like those remaining will be the stuff... A-

From a half with a high shoulder fill bought at auction. Color was slightly advanced compared to other bottles I've seen, medium-brown/caramel colored; nose has great spice, dried apricot; palate has that characteristic Yquem ability to be both viscous and light at the same time, shows fantastic explosive flavors with plenty of fruit, honey, caramel, hints of copper in the flavorful midpalate; finish is fresh, clean, dried apricots, very long (almost never-ending). This is a superb example of a fully mature sauternes that still has much plateau ahead, and I'm glad I now have a benchmark sauternes to which I can compare my future wines. This was likely not a perfectly stored bottle and I do not think it is a perfect wine, but it is extraordinary (though certainly not great QPR and a close experience can be found at a fraction of the price). Update: Day 2- lovely new smooth orange component on the palate. Overall as vibrant as yesterday. This wine has smooth, impeccable balance. The midpalate and finish have a nice tangy citrus/grapefruit component. Great complexity. The most impressive part of this wine is definitely the never-ending finish and tang. Increasing one more point to 97.

Districts and Producers in Spain (My House): Irreproachable provenance. Some development in color, but still a youthful touch; knotting varnish, some tobacco, raisin, citrus, intense. Fantastic balance and a surprising lightness. Unfortunately, very drinkable. My first ’75, and much more elegant than I expected.

Golden colour. Lovely nose of sugar and spice and all things nice. Sweet nose of ripe pineapples, tropical fruit, apricots, honey, but does not smell overly sweet or unbalanced. On the palate, great poise on the attack. Expansive, rich and deep on the palate - lots of things going on in the mid palate, big fruit but does not feel weighty. Great acidity and fruit in harmony. On back palate, some issues with a slight applecore-like bitterness. This was from a half. Perhaps a slight problem with storage but I did see a similar issue being raised by another reader. This was perhaps the reason why some of the other tasters (tasting blind) thought this could be rieussac or guiraud. Probably not value for money and certainly not a perfect bottle.

Honey gold color. Wonderful, soaring aromas of apricots, honey, tropical fruits that persisted in the glass even when all of the wine was drunk. Liquid gold on the palate staining immensely long finish with some acidity to balance it out.

1975 Chateau d’Yquem is a contender for the most consistent 100 Pt wine I have ever tasted. Bottle after bottle has been stunning and this 5 Yquem was no exception. With a copper, orange color, honey covered apricots, floral aromas, pineapples, creme brulee, coconut and tropical aromas explode in front of your nose. Viscous, opulent, packed and stacked with endless waves of deep, juicy, spicy, honey drenched fruit, your mouth, teeth and gums are coated with pleasure .Everything is on balance. The perfect amount of acidity keeps the wine, fresh and lively. The seamless finish lasts well over a minute. If you have the money and want to experience Yquem at its best, Kenny Loggins had it right, "This is it!"

From a half-bottle. Signs of past seepage and a deteriorated cork. Amber colour. A nose of barley, brown sugar, and marmalade, all reminiscent of d'Yquem. On the palate, strong signs of poor storage, with bitter notes overwhelming almost all else. On the other hand, there are still residual notes of the potential greatness of this wine; the complexity is still lingering there. But the bitterness really does overtake everything else in the end. You can taste the powerful acidity and potential, but it is only a shadow of what it could be. Not scored.

A gorgeous, dense and concentrated Yquem that is still quite young but the material here is so pure and the wine is so balanced. Medium sweetness with firm, mouthwatering acidity especially for a sauternes. Finishes so complex with great class and richness. Sure to be a long-lived version of Yquem but for my palate its just amazing to drink tonight.

With the color of pure, honey, the aromatics can seemingly be experienced from across the room! Apricots, oranges, flowers, roasted pineapples, caramel, grilled nuts all drenched in Acacia honey. Thick, concentrated, rich, lush and opulent fruit coats your mouth, teeth and gums. But its the perfect balance that becomes evident with the lift of acidity that makes this one of the best dessert wines ever produced. The long, honey coated, tropical fruit filled, seamless finish lasts over 60 seconds! This stunning wine is flawless. Perhaps the 2001 will be better. And in 25 years, when that wine begins to enter maturity, we'll find out, But for today, I cannot think of a vintage of Chateau d'Yquem that offers better drinking.

Mouton Madness: SDR's BWE Thursday Night Dinner (Equinox Restaurant, Washington DC): Golden-yellow color. Oranges, pineapples, vanilla on the nose, very intense, but I am not getting much honey/honeysuckle. Intense fruit and great balancing acidity on the palate, some nuttiness and coconut peeks through with time in the glass, this just starts to open up as the last drops are drained. A great Yquem but could it still be too young? An inspired match with the spiced pineapple coulis and vanilla bean cream.

The end of a great dinner - a Great wine - A captivating nose of botrytis, orange peel, pineapple, apricot, honey, rose petals and more that continued to unfold in the glass - The deep amber/orange and gold liquid revealed similar tastes of orange peel, apricot, pineapple and honey - The most amazing thing about this wine is its razor focus of flavors - sweet but not cloying - the acidity delineates everything but at the same time everything is harmonius and seamless - Better than the 1976 and I think the 1967 though I haven't tasted that in a few years.

A decadent evening (Sydney, Australia): Glowing amber-gold colour. Initially the nose is subdued and then suddenly it begins to unfold and reveal the most captivating, amazing aromas of apple, pear, musky perfume, peach, apricot, honey, pineapple, citrus peel and rose petals - it seemed as though every with every sniff another entrancing layer of aroma was revealed. I take a sip and I'm glad that I'm sitting down as I am almost overwhelmed by its brilliance. The palate is scintillating - for a wine to display such power and elegance simultaneously seems almost impossible. Utterly flawless balance. Twinkles across the palate into an endless finish.
Completely memorising and moving. Three weeks after tasting it, I am still rendered speechless and almost breathless every time I think about it. Perfect.

Yquem Tasting (Robersons Wine, London): Light gold with some amber, very strong expressive nose of botrytis, honied almonds and apricot tart, tightly pinched acidity that runs the full length of the long finish. Well balanced but the acidity is a little too keen for the fruit, enormous density showing just a little mature notes, which moved to herbal / tea after an hour or so.

Medium yellow in the glass. Scents of wax and abricot with underlying notes of rubber. Marvellous, voluptuous, juicy, chewy, and chunky in texture and body with delicious freshness. The wine was incredibly lively and showed no signs of heaviness. Head spinningly complex - almost surreal - with layers and layers of facets, packed in a hugely structured of clearly defined completeness that merrits a perfect score. The aftertaste went on and on, and again I feel like I am being conservative in my scores.

Dark yellow, brownish in colour. Roasted nuts and abricot and orange peel scents coming out of the glass. In the mouth the wine is honeyed, packed with botrytis and fresh, ripe fruit, but there’s no sign of heaviness, or gross overblown sweetness. Why would there be? This is Yquem, and if anything, this wine is fresh, flambouyant and elegant all at the same time. Concentrated and complex beyond description, wrapped up in a finish that I can still taste. What can I say?

Amber coloured. Abricot and rhubarb on the nose. In the mouth there's just a hint of pertroluem flavour, but everything is so unbeliavably classy and elegant. It's an amazing achievement to pack a bottle so densely. Not overly sweet, but fresh, and the acid keeps things in check. This is awesome.

But it is on the palate, with its incredible match of concentration, sweetness, and blazing acidity that helps it all make sense. This is so good, it could run out of points on the best bottles, especially with more time.

A rare dud for Yquem. Good fill but too dark for age. Nice sweetness and concentration but much too simple and fruit-challenged. Perhaps there was a provenance problem before I purchased it but other bottles from the same lot have been much better. This should be superb even from a half bottle.

Unbelievable. Wonderful. For me at his top but will live at least 20 years more. 99+. For my friend Thomas (his gift, vintage 1975) clearly 100 points. For him better than 1967, for me not.
Creme brulee, dried apricots, honey, figs, dates, vanilla, cream, spices, orange zest, lime cest, ripe mango, Hawaiin pineapple (because for me the best), the fresh young acidity makes this wine a milestone, would like to drink it again in 10 years, perfect bottle, not decanted, but it could be for 2 or 3 hours, gets better and better with time
never ending finish, gorgeous

Just got to spend a second with this, and this is definitely one of the wines that I wish I could have sat with for a while (along with the 90 Rousseau and the 91 Monte Bello.) The nose was mature and powerful - creme brulee, honey, baking spices, florals - honeysuckle, paraffin, minerals. On the palate this is huge and rich, yet so focused and driven - brulee, spices and honeysuckle. Just staggering. 18/20.

Never got what the big deal is about d'Yquem. I don't have my notes but I do recall at the time I tried this that it had scored 100 in the wine spectator and other ratings. IMO this is what a dessert wine should be like https://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=814515&searchId=DE8393CD%23selected%253DW814515_13_K0dadc627c634c8121f4ba25021470bdb
For the Y'quem had it at tasting and really couldn't get much complexity out of it. We didn't finish the bottle ( it was one of many others of the evening) so took it home and had it the next day with a sugarless rasberry tart (very tart) and the combination was awesome, but a long way from an epic 100 point wine

Not scored.
