Wednesday, March 20, 2019 - Clear, deep ruby red. Dark fruits and sweet spice on the nose. Black cherry, blackberry, fennel, cinnamon, baked overtones. On the palate, it is dry with medium plus acidity, fairly powerful grip as tannins are still high, medium plus body. Flavors of cherries, along with baking spices and anise, the fruit comes off as dried fruit, with some very light hints of prune and raisins. Finish is of medium length.
This is quite enjoyable but I wish I had decanted for at least two hours. At that point the tannins feel less aggressive and the wine is much more approachable. If you pop now, DECANT! Otherwise wait another 2 to 3 years, given the dried fruit notes, I doubt this will improve any further though.
