  • Based upon this bottle, I would have to conclude that my previous TN from October was based on a somewhat off bottle.

This wine is more typical of a Etna Rosso in terms of palate presence and fruit profile. Light- to medium-bodied, more red fruit than black, decent acidity. Not overly complex, but a satisfying wine that you don't have to think about as you toss back a glass or three.

  • Surprisingly dark translucent ruby in the glass - much darker than I would have expected for a Nerello-based wine.

Red fruits and menthol on the nose. Riper red fruit, tilting toward overripe. After that great glass of Vacelli, a little disappointing. Not bad per se, but a little atypical.

  • Clear, deep ruby red. Dark fruits and sweet spice on the nose. Black cherry, blackberry, fennel, cinnamon, baked overtones. On the palate, it is dry with medium plus acidity, fairly powerful grip as tannins are still high, medium plus body. Flavors of cherries, along with baking spices and anise, the fruit comes off as dried fruit, with some very light hints of prune and raisins. Finish is of medium length.
This is quite enjoyable but I wish I had decanted for at least two hours. At that point the tannins feel less aggressive and the wine is much more approachable. If you pop now, DECANT! Otherwise wait another 2 to 3 years, given the dried fruit notes, I doubt this will improve any further though.

  • Still very structured but balanced....really good wine here.

  • somewhat dark and murky, powerful, not much fruit, a little anise, raspberry, leather, pencil, this is wine that fits into a bloody steak, reminiscent of a Cahors or a slightly rustic petit chateaux of Bordeaux

  • Light translucent ruby in the glass, typical of the coloring you get with Nerello Mascalese-based wines. Nice spicy nose with red & black fruits.

Medium-bodied, decent persistence on the finish, ripe red & black fruit, and that note of spices that I got on the nose comes through on the palate as well. Very likable right now.

  • Hvor har det blitt av frukten? Har den lukket seg eller allerede på vei ned?

  • There has been some positive evolution here since my bottle a year ago. Broadly the description still applies but I sense sweeter fruit and more velvety texture. Good.

  • Popped & poured, and also translucent ruby - these three wines all look the same shade of red/ruby. Nice complex nose here, with an "earthy" tone that is noteworthy.

Light-bodied on the palate, adequate acidity, a tannic finish - my favorite of the three wines at first blush, but none of these wines have yet had the benefit of being matched up with my better half's pizza yet.

I would have to say that over the past 2-3 years, the Etna region has been one of the fastest growing portions in my cellar, and I always get the impression that these wines will continue to improve with additional time in the bottle.

Innbydende i stilen.

  • Consistent with previous bottle but seemed a bit riper with more warm baking spice notes and slightly over ripe fruit on the back end. A touch hot on the finish as well.

  • Aromas of eucalyptus, mint and chalky berry fruit with just a hint of vanilla.
Very juicy on the palate as the nose suggests, with slightly spicy raspberry flavors that have a soft roundness to them. Nicely balanced with some stony minerals on the finish.

  • by the carafe at Desco: medium body with mixed wild berry, mineral/earth and a bit of herb; less juicy than when last tasted; nice food wine

  • open 30-40 minutes before serving. Black fruits with some dark chocolate hints. Firm tannins and some rustic edges. Better in another year.

  • bright red fruit, cocoa, dusty tannin. Acid is a bit much...really

  • Tart and spicy red fruits with a hint of warm oak on the palate. Good acidity with a juicy mouthfeel and dry finish. Mostly dried cherry and baking spice flavors. A bit simple but very enjoyable and it paired well with a spicy tomato sauce.

  • This is much more gutsy than my previous experience of Etna from Terre Nere where I noted "quasi-Burgundian elegance". Colour quite deep but less black than some Sicilians. Nose was rather shy with dark fruit and an iron streaked earthy touch. The palate was more savoury than sweet, medium/full bodied with dark fruit, more plum than cherry, fresh iron tinged acidity, earthy minerals and a quite strong tannic backbone with liquorice hints. There was a slight opening of aromas and smoothing of texture as the bottle progressed. I have no experience how Etna behaves with age but think that this might benefit with some more and with decanting in its present state. Good.

  • P/P at Dopo with their comfort food; dense and sweet wild red berry; smooth and young in a good way

  • The youthful nose has a burgundian fresh cherry character underpinned by the spiciness you find in dark green Sicilian olive oil. Acidity and alcohol are both high, the tannins are large and chunky, but you could do a lot worse than this wine for the price.

  • Nose - berries and herbs
Mouth - intensely fruited, very dry, sappy red fruit with a hint of mint. Dried cherries and rustic tannins. Overall very charming. Recommended

  • Translucent cherry red. Fresh red fruit, earthy, fine persistent tannins. Very nice, quaffable wine.

  • Clear, somewhat translucent dark cherry color that turns slightly orange towards the rim. Somewhat restrained nose with aromas of sweet dark cherries, light meaty tones, some inky character and a hint of hot, sun-baked rocks. The wine is somewhat light-bodied on the palate, but with racy acidity and rather pronounced, grippy tannins, giving the wine very rough, robust and quite rustic overall feel and a lot of intensity to the fruit. Flavors of ripe red cherries, fresh tart dark-skinned berries, some sour cherries, a little bit of gravely earth, light smoky and a hint of smoke. Long, spicy and sunny, yet cool finish with flavors of tart dark berries, blackberries and sour cherry bitterness with some herbal character, a hint of peppery spice and quite a bit of tannic roughness. The wine ends on a somewhat astringent, mouth-drying note.

Finally, a wine with good structure and nice, unpolished and rustic character! This is far from a crowdpleaser: there are a lot of angular tannins and a good dose of bright acidity, giving the wine a nice, gritty edge. Terrific focus, intensity and lovely purity of fruit that is all about tart and savory notes, not ripe sweetness. Quite angular wine on its own, but really terrific with food. Just lovely. Good value at 8€ for a 12 cl glass in a restaurant.
