Monday, October 6, 2014 - Very dark, almost black cherry red color that permits only very little light through. The nose feels somewhat reticent with quite sweet aromas of cherry and blackcurrant marmalade, some Maraschino cherries, a little bit of stemmy greenness, a hint of dried dark fruits and a touch of soy sauce. Although quite big, the wine feels quite balanced with its moderate acidity and ripe, lightly gripping tannins. A dense, weighty and easy Primitivo that feels very typical of the variety, but doesn't come across as excessively sweet nor overdone as they usually do. Overall a pretty predictable and somewhat uninspiring Puglian red, but fortunately better than expected. Shows good varietal qualities and balanced structure. A pretty decent effort.
