Friday, February 17, 2017 - Blackberry, black cherry, vanilla and earth on the nose. Close to full bodied (14.5% ABV) and from opening, drank over the course of two hours. Massive and bright blackberry upfront along with black cherry and then deeper plum and other blackfruit notes behind. Lots of tannic structure along with additional acidity which provides a challenge at first. But when drunk with food, the tannins blended into the fruit almost seamlessly and it even served to bring out more of the finishing mineral notes. With food, this was just a completely different wine, showing both very good fruit and structure, excellent brightness and the lingering mineral qualities on the finish. Based on the fruit and structure, this wine still has several years of additional improvement ahead of it. (Columbia Restaurant, Sarasota, Florida)
