Very fresh tasting. Plump. Bright and active sweet fruit. Bursting. Substantial, with slate and embroidered fruit tannin. I didn't drink enough to erase the confectionary effect of the transition from 2004 Torre Muga, but let me not hold it against this.

Yum! So good. Bright, full purple fruit, violets. Very ripe, and approaching too big, but has good dark tobacco and mushroom notes to keep it all in order. Good floral lift and bright finish. Fully mature, possible downhill in the not too distant future, but drinking great now. Excellent.

Big, rich, and modern styled with its sweet-ish black fruit and big spicebox, but easily refined and nearly elegant at the same time. Powerful from start-to-finish with a long, persistent ending. Still wonderfully bright.

Nose of cherries, applewood chips, and dark chocolate. The length on this is ridiculous. Rich cherry ice cream with very subtle chocolate and smoked wood chips. Quite tannic, more so than I expected for a Clos Mogador. Drink or hold.

decanted one hour. reidel syrah glass, dark plum purple fading to clear at the meniscus, powerful nose: tobacco, road tar, dried prunes, stewed plums, some espresso, dark stone fruit on the palate a long finish with hint of menthol, but, alas, turns a bit watery at the end. the alcohol was not overly powerful in this btl as described by other tasters

Still deep dark color. No discernible bricking or rim variation. Smells of very ripe plum, dried tobacco leaf, and a slight floral character. Full body, flavors of ripe plum, ripe cherry, tobacco, and leathery component. The tannin and acid are big but in balance. The alcohol is massive and undoes this wine a bit. Very ripe, almost pruny fruit lingers in the aftertaste.

Slo-oxed for 30 minutes, but definitely will benefit from a 30 to 60 minute decant -- for aeration & (a fair amount of) sediment -- as the wine needs time to settle and come together. Nice aromas of dark red fruits and earth. These followed on the palate (reminding us of a Bordeaux blend), along with a touch of cedar and a hint of floral. Nicely balancing acidity, mostly integrated tannins, and a fairly long finish rounded out this medium plus bodied wine. L favored it more than J (who favored the companion wine... 2004 Clos Erasmus)! This wine should continue to mellow and integrate over the next several years.

From a magnum. I really enjoyed this. It was much bigger, bolder, darker colored than I was expecting from a Grenache based wine. Nice medium-long finish. It threw off a lot of sediment.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ (Alpharetta, GA): Dark ruby core with maroon rim; roses, sweet raspberry, cedar, dusty, balm, almost seashell; sweet and juicy fruit, higher acid, some floral, good wrap of tannin, roses, long floral finish, slight bitter mineral; was thinking Priorat but the multitude of Italians led me there like everyone else, trust your gut.

Blackberry, black cherry, vanilla and earth on the nose. Close to full bodied (14.5% ABV) and from opening, drank over the course of two hours. Massive and bright blackberry upfront along with black cherry and then deeper plum and other blackfruit notes behind. Lots of tannic structure along with additional acidity which provides a challenge at first. But when drunk with food, the tannins blended into the fruit almost seamlessly and it even served to bring out more of the finishing mineral notes. With food, this was just a completely different wine, showing both very good fruit and structure, excellent brightness and the lingering mineral qualities on the finish. Based on the fruit and structure, this wine still has several years of additional improvement ahead of it. (Columbia Restaurant, Sarasota, Florida)

Brought from my cellar to our annual suckling pig roast. Served with several other big Spanish reds,e.g., Alion and Numanthia. This is one big wine, dark purple in color and no tannin. A nose of plum, blackberry and earth. Big over the top palate of earth, plum, blackberry and earth. Very similar to the other big reds we drank. A little too big for me, but still enjoyable.

Not sure what to say....this was decanted upon arrival and had at least an hour before we drank some and yet remarkably tannic and hard and no ripe fruit, at least initially. Eventually some spice and other flavors emerged but never really blossomed. Not corked but maybe cooked or some other defect

I like this vintage, I like Priorat ( Clos Erasmus 2004 is one of my favorite wines ever), even it was from Magnum, I was a little bit disappointed, too broad, a hint too much cooked fruits, even you feel the extract sweetness and the saltieness. The structure is not balanced. I'm not sure if the wine is getting better with aging. After three hours of decantation not much development, 91-92 but great dark berries with spicieness and palpable alcohol in the finish

After 8hrs slow ox and 1hr double decant this really came alive. Moderate mocha and liquorice aroma, and broad and intensive blackberry, cassis earth and mineral flavours. Tannins remain, but are over-shadowed by the acidity and with air the wine deepens to become deep and lush. Well-balanced and with the acidity this isn't tiring to drink at all, really helped cut through our meal as well. With about 2-3hr double decant this is ready to drink, but clearly will improve further - developing greater complexity over the next 5yrs. Lots of fine sediment, needs standing upright and double-decanting.

Warm, powerful, modern wine, well-crafted along the easy-to-like lines of the nowadays. Lots of sap, ultra-soft tannines, black cherry, coffee, chocolate, sweet tobacco, earl grey tea. Soft, carressing and velvety, yet containing lots of hidden power. To me this somehow feels like a 'designer-wine', composed in the cellar, very clean and safe. It therefore lacks some footprint and typicité. But hey, that's nitpicking. It's delicious!

I took this to a Spanish group tasting with friends. Of 13 fine wines (including a $160 Valbuena) it was the wine of the night. Some in the group thought it approached 100 points. Dark ruby, with a musty complex nose and layers of dark fruit flavors. Perfectly balanced. I scored it 94 from my notes, but in retrospect maybe it should be higher. Needless to say, it's drinking fine now with several years ahead of a drinking window.

This is a big wine and its showing zero signs of being 11 years old. Deep purple color. No hint of beginning to get a little rusty. In perfect balance. Mouth puckering and coating at the same time. This was wonderful tonight. 94

Youthful showing in direct comparison with the 2003, that is actually a more pleasant wine at the moment. Still somewhat inky in colour and tannins that indicate this has still quite some years of positive evolution. Still it is intense, complex, well balanced and long. Outstanding wine that probably still has yet to show it's fullest. 92+

I had this wine in 2013 and it was nothing like this. I opened it yesterday, had a glass, kept it on the fridge overnight and tried it again tonight. Very big changes... after it warmed up some.
Interesting, but muted nose; then a huge explosion in the mouth. A divine, multitude of dark berry fruits. Quite impressive. Still needs another 5+ years for its best showing and can last another 10 years.

BYOB - Blind tasting (Chris Home): Colour: Dark ruby colour. Nose: Dark cherry, blackberry, a bit of espresso, licorice, herbs and a slightly graphite component. Seems a bit tight and holding back some reserves. Palate: Good balance between the alcohol, acidity and the fruit. Bit tannic on the end, good concentration, think this will improve with 3-5 years more aging.

Darkly coloured. Beautiful fragrance of plums, blueberries and violets. A lightly saline edge with ink and tar. Deeply scented and pure. Silky, med weight, very long. Plums and blueberries with a dark graphite and tar edge. Finishes with crisp acid and strong but fine furry tannins. Plenty of years ahead of it.

from a mogador tasting vertical spanning 2004-2008, i can say that this wine has developed much faster than the others, and is ready to drink now. Shows nice tobacco, dirt, and other secondary complex flavors, I wouldnt hold onto this much longer. The 2005 on the other hand is slumbering along and needs 5 more years.

Cherries and strawberries on the open nose with notes of leather, mocha and clove-like oak spice. Fullbodied and round with powdery tannins and some nice brightness despite the obvious weight. Slightly disjointed feel to the lengthy palate. But overall quite tasty and worth a couple of more years in the cellar. Nice.

Somewhat young and primary, dark and structured. Will probably get better with a bit more keeping, to let the aromas blossom and the oak to integrate better. It's a well made wine, but feels a bit too fragmental at the moment.

14.5% alcohol. decanted, and followed in the glass for 5 hours, kept in cellar to maintain temp. mild sediment, fine grain tannins remain. fruit freshened with air, took on smoother finish. not always a fan of these rhone + cab blends, but this one works pretty well. i believe it may even have some pinot in it? far from my favoraite vintage; somewhat angular and oaky which detracts for me. drink now - 2016.

A B-day double blind session: Tasted double blind. Decanted for 2 hours. No formal notes. Nose initially offering a bouquet of string barnishes, gum, rubber, menthol,... really weird nose considering the time this had been decanted. On palate this unusual phase goes on, as the wine shows to be medium bodied, with medium (right) acidity. Mid palate it's surprisingly hollow and made of red fruit. It ends with a medium finish. What was intended to be "the flight" of the night, became"the big disappointment" of the night. Bottle was not corked but could have been victimized of a bad storage and maybe damaged by the heat.

Another great wine. Loaded with amazing dark blackberry and black currant fruit. But where the wine shines is with its perfectly balanced acid profile and the complexity that is given to it by a pronounced earth and herbal/minty eucalyptus note. Comes across as savory on the finish and the finish is solid. Very very good wine. I liked it just a touch less than the La Fleur Petrus we drank right beside it, but that's like judging a beauty contest.

Pre- Xmas lunch (El Recó restaurant (Sant Climent, Barcelona)): Decanted for 3 hours. Dark dark color! Expressive nose that improves over time. Dark purple color; Dark fruit with a touch of pepper on the nose; Dark fruit flavors like blackberry and cassis. It also had an herbal note to it, maybe anise with earth and minerals on the finish. Very complex albeit still on the young side. Balanced with enough acidity to keep it from being heavy. Integrated tannin on the finish and probably just entering its drinking window.

Dark, though not opaque garnet. This is wine candy. Not in a bad way. Rich and unctuous, silky, voluptuous, though not overpowering. The alcohol must be fairly high, as the legs are high in the glass, but it's hidden well. Dark, complex candied cherry flavors, touches of tar and anise, with some nice acidity that brings just enough tartness through on the finish to keep this in balance. Would go well with a rich beef or lamb stew, or as the finishing bottle for the evening. Personally, I wouldn't hold this for years, I think it's charm will be lost.

Purple, inky, very youthful color. Perfumed nose of black fruits, coco, and not much else. Aromatically still closed even after two days of being open. Palate is dark, dense, and brambly with fruit intertwined in the toasty oak and earth. The finish is lengthly comprised of fine tannin. This wine is very concentrated and closed at this point. As others have stated this wine is a hold at the moment. 35% Garnacha, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah, 10% Cariñena.

There must be some bottle variation going on with this. I was thoroughly disappointed and can't say the wine was flawed. One of the "funkier" noses I've had in a while, very dirty diaper. It had good weight, but drank like a $5 spanish wine. Seemed one dimensional and high-toned - clearly different from WA's view and the other notes written here. I'll abstain from rating until I taste this again.

Dark purple in color; No score as this may have been slightly corked. Even if it was this was still a very good wine with complexity. This still needs time to integrate some pretty hefty tannins. Maybe a medium-term hold (5+ years)?

Extracted and slightly sweet, but in a way I can actually enjoy, which is rare. Loads of black cherries, some tobacco and licorice, but really excellent dark carmel notes hiding among all that fruit with a seriously powerful core. Drinking very well right now, I see it continuing to improve for 6-8 years and lasting a lot longer than that. Drank at Taberna del Alabardero in Washington, DC with roast suckling pig. Wow. 93pts.

Deep red, with a brilliant pinkish ruby neon rim. the Crazy color is a nice foreshadow of this wine. Fresh Flowers and Dark Cherries on the nose. Initial palate entry is a little drying but the mid palate is Stuffed to the gills with dark red fruits --- showing incredible concentration. Extracted, and Backward the Finish is absolutely crushing with tannins and acidity. This wine is CRAZY young now, but showing incredible promise. I love the combo of savage and nobility that this wine presents. Drank/Decanted over 5 hours. Throw a score up in the air... it likely will prove low in time

Reserved nose of high-toned dark fruit; palate has nice depth with dark fruit and a nice chocolaty finish; tannic; quite similar to what I would expect from a good Aussie shiraz

The Wine Club (San Francisco, CA): May have done better decanting. Damp rotting leaves and tobacco nose, berries in the front, tart yet sweet mid with very nice body, medium tannic finish.

Black/purple. Sauvage aromas of cassis, black fruits, tobacco, leather. Powerful, rich and sweet, very extracted. Long finish in outstanding balance. This wine is way too young but already drinking well and will be stunning in ten years.

Excepcional. 95+

Dark purple. Strong and intense nose of plums, raisins and alcohol... Full-bodied, yet light with great mouthfeel and a great taste of... Christmas. However the alcohol shows to much at this stage. Will probably be great when it gets its act together. 92++

Wineflock - 2004 Spanish survey, judging the hype (My House): Group #6 in flight - Full opaque blue/purple color. Medium bright slightly smoky mulberry nose. Big mouthful of sweet black cherry with licorice notes and an earthy finish. Will benefit from time.

Lots of red and blue fruit, dusty earth, smoke, blueberries, leather underneath a massive wall of chalky tannin and mouth clenching acitiy. Great stuffing but total infanticide. 91-92 for drinking now, lots of upside but whether that's 94 or 97 we won't know for at least 5 years.

Visit to René Barbier, Clos Mogador (Manyetes, Gratallops (Tarragona)): Tasted from bottle with René Barbier, Dirk Hoet, Ive Marx and Michiel Carpentier. The wine is still in barrel. Very dark colour. In the slightly lactic nose cough sirup, black fruit, liquorice, ... The palate is very concentrated. Black fruit, spices, chocolate, refreshing acidity. Coats the mouth. Great wine, I hope the definitive bottling keeps this quality. Mostly Grenache, with 15% Carignan and 20% Syrah.
