Saturday, September 11, 2021 - This Ridge wine is abominably over-oaked. The fruit barely peeks through the bourbon and dill flavors of American oak. Like licking on a used bourbon barrel and dreaming faintly of blackberries. I would be amazed if the wood flavors integrates in time so that the fruit comes through, but will sit on my remaining few bottles. Poor decision-making at Ridge in this vintage; I have had some mid-1990's wines from the producer that were decent, but this is outrageously unbalanced. A poor effort here. What were they thinking? Hopefully more recent efforts at Ridge are not as imbalanced ....
