Community Tasting Note

Saturday, November 6, 2021 - From a 50mL miniature purchased at Graham's lodge in Villa Nova de Gaia. Nice tawny red colour. On the nose, aromas of cherry like aromas as well as nuts and a touch of coffee (!). On the palate, the attack is frank, fruity, with the aromas as found the on the nose (cherries/nuts/coffee). A good roundness on the palate and finishing on a nutty smokiness.

In comparison to the Taylor's 10 yo tasted in parallel, this is less oxidised and appears a touch younger (which to my preference is a good thing, but tawny aficionados may not agree), with a more vivacious fruit (brightness) and a touch less oxidation. The coffee notes are quite original. I'd give this a slight edge, as the whole seems to have a slightly better balance and also the alcohol is less apparent. 88-89 or so.
