Sunday, June 23, 2019 - May have left this a year too long, seems to be slightly on the downslope, but absolutely wonderful, aged, nuanced wine - medium to medium deep mahogany colour is slightly alarming, but nose is beautiful, an aged gem, with just a hint of stewed or tired fruit at the end - dried fruit and spice, with tons of tertiaries like leather, plum skins, chamomile, a bit of rootsy-ness - palate is balanced, still has a gentle grip- nuanced. Delicious with our rack of lamb w pesto and prosciutto - Yum!

12/30/2023 11:11:00 PM - I just opened my first bottle of 12 (Dec ‘23). I would not call it mahogany. Garnet? Definitely jewel-like. I have been hanging out with wine industry types lately. I have learned that I enjoy wine much more developed than the average. This is lovely. I suppose the characters are secondary and tertiary. Cigar box on the nose. Honey in the palate. It still has a bit of pleasant fine tannin on the first glass. Second glass is smooth as silk. It will be an interesting wine to watch develop as the evening progresses. I wonder about the cellaring of yours. I am thinking you may have had a less than pristine bottle. I paid around $20 a bottle for mine on release. For the price I cannot imagine a better Cabernet. But please enlighten me. Seriously.

I just reread your review and I think your assessment of the smells and flavours accords with mine. But we are 5 years down the track. Maybe I should have looked at one earlier. But this is lovely as far as I am concerned. Not sliding for me. But I probably will open another one this year. (Well it is NYE—make that “in the next 12 months” 😆) If I open something before midnight it will be something else.

1/17/2024 2:47:00 PM - My '03's were purchased in Seattle in 2006 and 2007. Stored in perfect conditions in our cellar after purchase. We had five bottles of this wine over the years, and thoroughly enjoyed them all, but this was not as good as the preceding four, and did seem to me to be on the decline. Of course, that could just be bottle variation (I hope so, for your benefit!). And of course, personal tastes vary. I would just add, for what it's worth, that World of Fine Wine did a 50 year retrospective of this bottling, and the '03 was considered just OK, and faded on the finish, whereas the article was very positive about most vintages. So my advice would be to keep a close eye on them. Cheers!
