Sunday, February 2, 2020 - Slightly less tannin structure and more obvious red fruit than the 13 casa mate (recognizing the case mate was fairly closed). Both cut from the same cloth, with big tannic structure, a little gloss, midweight feel, balanced acidity and a lot of power. While this has slightly less power than the casa mate, this feels more balanced in fruit and tannin, where there is still big tannic structure but the fruit isn't as buried. Also I pick up some raspberry vs casa mate was more dark cherry. This makes it more approachable, but no less ageable with more fruit that fits my palate.

I suspect I prefer casa mate generally for more concentration, but in this vintage I think this wine wins with less density but better tannin/fruit balance than the casa mate. For 65 paid, excellent qpr. A case buy. Give it a decade though...

94 today. 95+ in time. If someone scores lower, I think their main quibble will be concentration.

Would like to have this against the 13 f rinaldi cannubi riserva. On the palate I think this would be more cherry/raspberry vs ripe cherry, less concentration, with similar tannic structure, and more acid lift (which the Rinaldi lacked a smidgeon of). I suspect the Rinaldi is the better wine, but will check in 5 years for a fun duel.
