Wednesday, December 27, 2017 - PnP in Burg glasses and slow ox for 45 minutes prior to dinner of beef stew. Semi translucent ruby color. This is the most classic vintage I've had of this basic blend Barolo cuvee since my first vintage with the 2009s. Balanced to be sure but the first vintage I've opened where it's structure is significantly tamer and more enjoyable with food than without. '9 & '12 were more accessible either way. That's not a complaint just apparently the nature of Burlotto's '13 basic Barolo. I did enjoy it standalone too but the structure melds best with food. Classic aromas of dark berries, roses and hint of leather. Raspberry, tar, licorice, herbs, mineral and again hint of leather on the palate. This has a more classic masculine structure but, not oppressively so. It comes off more serious and brooding than '9 & '12. Might do better with a decant. I have 3 more and likely will wait a minimum of 3 more years before my next btl. Alc 14%. If you have them no problem with trying them early though. 2 hour+ decant might be a fun experiment.
