94 Points

Wednesday, July 5, 2023 - I had not had this one since back at the Chateau during lunch back in '17. Rick, our host was most kind to pull one from his cellar and put it into a decanter for our CO event. This one was dark garnet in the glass, no bricking noticeable. Nose of barnyard at the pnp and for about 3 hours afterward before it blew off and evolved into your typical graphite, earth with dark red Bdx fruit. Always a fav of mine this continued to evolve throughout the night over 6-7 hours of air getting classier and more refined every hour. Borders on a 95 for my palate by the end of the night. I suspect it may need even more air than we were able to afford it from this afternoon and throughout the evening. There may be another 1-2 points yet to come. Thanks so much for opening this one for us tonight, my friend! Nice to go back and revisit a wine I haven't had in 6 years!

Addendum: forgot to mention that as the night wore on and this one benefitted from 6-7 hours of air a wonderful cigar box profile emerged on the nose and palate.....quite enjoyable at that point!
