Saturday, January 2, 2010 - I admit that Gary V's very enthusiastic 99 point rating of this wine made me curious --so, when I saw this on sale at Zachy's for $19.99 a bottle I grabbed a few.
The wine has lovely aromatics - pineapple,banana peel, apricot,honey,vanilla, woodspice and citrus. The palate doesn't live up to the nose. I like that this is soft and light-bodied for a Sauternes, but am bothered by the low acidity which makes the wine comes across a little too fleshy. There's some nice spicy botrytis which gives it some lift/dimension but the lack of acidity deprives this one of verve!! Solid finish.Still a lovely bottle - but not a back up the truck bottle for me.
